January was an exciting month filled with meaningful engagements and leadership development for Cowan Consulting! ?? We started the year in Jackson, MS, facilitating a half-day CliftonStrengths orientation for student leaders across the state at the annual UPLIFT Leaders Retreat. It was inspiring to see these emerging leaders gain deeper self-awareness and build a strengths-based foundation for their journey ahead. ?? Next, we partnered with the Juvenile Court of Memphis & Shelby County's Senior Leadership Team during their annual retreat. Our session focused on the four needs of followers—trust, hope, compassion, and stability—along with strategies for navigating crucial conversations and insights from the latest engagement data. We explored common blind spots that managers and leaders often face, providing a fresh perspective on how to foster a more engaged and effective workplace. ?? To close out the month, we had the privilege of working with Sylvamo’s Senior Leadership Team in a training on communication styles within the four CliftonStrengths domains: Executing, Influencing, Strategic Thinking, and Relationship Building. Leaders walked away with a deeper understanding of how their strengths shape their communication, as well as the value and needs of other communication styles—an essential skill for those responsible for casting a vision and leading their teams to success. A common theme throughout all these #LeadershipSessions was the power of self-awareness—helping leaders recognize their strengths, talents, and how they show up to others. When leaders understand themselves better, they lead with greater clarity, confidence, and impact. ?? Lastly, we were thrilled to learn that our proposal, "Culture Building Playbook: Empowering Teams through Transitions with Strategic Tools," was accepted for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Conference! We’ll be presenting alongside a team from NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development, sharing how we strategically collaborated to lay a strong foundation for growth and success across their entire team. We’re excited to showcase our insights and best practices on building a thriving workplace culture through times of transition! A strong start to the year, and we’re looking forward to continuing this work! ?? #LeadershipDevelopment #CliftonStrengths #StrengthsBasedLeadership #Communication #Engagement #ProfessionalGrowth

HELP WANTED: I want to gather some insights around how often people invest in themselves. Specifically, I'm wondering how often do you (or have you) use your own money for their personal growth and development (doesn't matter if the development is to help you grow professionally in your career or just personally). I'm not talking about the number of times that the business (or manager) you work for has paid for training or the PD dollars used but YOUR own money. Feel free to share this poll on your timeline, like this post and/or add any thoughts on the topic or poll below in the comments. Thanks! #development #growth #investment #career #poll

Yesterday, Cowan Consulting had the opportunity to work with the largest career center in the nation during their recent staff retreat. We designed and delivered a dynamic workshop for NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development titled “Re-Imagining Our Org Culture with Appreciative Inquiry”. This was such a fun and powerful session - we had nearly 50 ppl engaged and interacting for 5hrs! The energy in the room was contagious and you could tell everyone was excited to be involved in the process. They already have a very talented team so we started by discovering and sharing what was currently working well. Then we dreamed about what the ideal work environment and collectively designed action plans that could be implemented into the work culture. We ended the day with everyone sharing their personal commitments on what they will do to create the new culture they want to see! What made this session so great? ??Having buy-in from the leadership team and them being proactive to leading through change ??Using the Q12 engagement survey to assess the culture and level of engagement for the center beforehand which also gave everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts and feedback on the current culture. ??Everyone showing up, being engaged and participating during entire the session. It was a jammed packed with lots of learning and activities aimed at building collaboration and empowering the team to be the change they want to see! Shoutout and thanks to John Hildebrand for agreeing to join in on the fun and experience by co-facilitating this amazing workshop! Thank you Long W., Jo Golden, Rachel Kraun, MSW and Paulette Gonzalez-Sierchio for trusting the process and working with us to meet your organization needs! #VioletReady If your business, organization or department has a need or want to learn more, then reach out to Jessica Cowan to see how we can create a unique solution for you! #CowanConsulting #TeamEngagement #WorkRetreats #TeamBuilding #ProfessionalDevelopment #ChangeManagement #WorkplaceCulture #AppreciativeInquiry #NYU #HigherEducation #OrganizationDevelopment
