Supporting Wildlife, One Birdhouse at a Time Last November, Covia’s Roff Plant accepted the Wildlife Habitat Council's Artificial Nesting Structure Challenge—an initiative designed to combat the decline in cavity-nesting bird populations due to habitat loss. Today, we’re proud to share that the Roff Plant has been recognized by Wildlife Habitat Council with the Best New Build Award for its outstanding birdhouse project. What started as a simple idea turned into something truly special. Led by Travis Smith and embraced by the entire team, the project became a way to showcase both environmental commitment and creativity. One team member, Hank, used his woodworking skills to build a custom birdhouse—unintentionally creating the perfect home for purple martins, the largest swallows in North America. This isn’t your average birdhouse. Built from plant-sourced materials, it includes features tailored for martins—lightweight, properly sized cavities, and even a bird bath held by a found antler. Strategically placed near the plant office, it’s already attracting attention from local wildlife—and the Covia team alike. As we approach peak nesting season in Oklahoma, the Roff team is excited to welcome (hopefully) new feathered residents. We’re honored by this recognition and proud to continue supporting conservation efforts through meaningful, hands-on projects. https://lnkd.in/gNYsYD7X https://lnkd.in/g8ikPNJW #Covia #WildlifeHabitatCouncil #EnvironmentalStewardship #PurpleMartins #Sustainability #Teamwork #ConservationInAction #WHCChallenge #RoffPlant #BirdConservation #ArtificialNestingStructures

Through it all, his commitment to safety, adaptability, and teamwork has made a lasting impact. Reflecting on his career, Ken shared: "I would not be where I am today if it were not for a great team of individuals at Marston. I have had the privilege of working with a lot of great guys and gals over the years.” As he prepares for retirement in June, Ken is looking forward to spending time with his wife of 44 years, enjoying camping, hiking, and gardening.
