Congratulations to Pulmonologist Dr. Brian Williams and his team on reaching a major milestone—performing their 100th ION procedure! This advanced robotic assisted technology allows us to catch early diagnoses of lung cancer, reach deeper and smaller areas, and make more precise diagnoses. With earlier detection comes faster treatment, helping us provide the best care possible for our patients.

We’re excited to announce the opening of our hospital-based school at Covenant Children’s. This program ensures our long-term patients can continue their education and stay on track academically while receiving treatment for severe illnesses or injuries. The classroom, along with our full-time certified teacher, provides these patients with comprehensive educational support and enrichment, including tutoring, cognitive training and brain engagement, and STEM learning. Thank you to our generous donors who made this program possible, including Abell-Hanger Foundation, Betenbough Homes, J.F. Maddox Foundation, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, H-E-B, and James A. "Buddy" Davidson Charitable Foundation. Together, we’re making education a vital part of the healing process.

At Covenant Health, every moment matters. Here's a powerful example of compassion shown by our ED Technician, Jacob Bayouth, during a challenging interaction with a patient. “We had a patient come into the Emergency Department with anxiety. She frequently visits the ED and is known to be highly aggressive. Typically, she bangs on the walls and door and screams profanity at the staff, and this visit was no different. During this visit, we had a patient just down the hall who was in their final moments. The whole family was in the room saying their goodbyes. Meanwhile, our anxious patient continued to scream profanity and bang on the door. Our physician ordered some medication to help calm her down and keep her safe from harming herself further. A group gathered by her door to help hold her while she received the medication. Our ED Tech, Jacob Bayouth, was part of this group. At this time, the patient could not be relaxed by anyone who had entered her room. When Jacob entered the room, he spoke calmly and compassionately to her as he guided her back to her stretcher. He gently placed his hand on her shoulder and reassured her that the medication would help her feel at ease and get the rest that she desperately needed. I don’t know specifically what he said to her as I was not directly in the room, but whatever it was, it helped her. The patient was immediately compliant and took the medication willingly. She calmed down a short time later. I was very impressed to see how he handled the situation with such professionalism and compassion. He treated her with such dignity and displayed our values here at Covenant. He is an outstanding young man, and we are so thankful to have him on our team.” -Vanessa Milam, CMC ED Nurse Manager #EveryMomentMatters
