Tara?Tisopulos is the Deputy Director of Sustainability at OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR), in Orange County, California. She oversees and manages the County’s sustainability efforts, working closely with all 22 departments and the County Executive Office to develop and implement the County Climate Action Plan and supporting initiatives, secure related funding, and spearhead regional collaboration.
Throughout her career,?Tara?has led environmental efforts/projects with clients throughout California, including the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), WM (formerly Waste Management), and Southern California Edison (SCE). She also holds years of experience working with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) as a technical writer and Air Quality Specialist, with additional experience in planning, CEQA documentation, and gaining valuable expertise in air quality issues and legislation. She holds a Master of Arts in Mass Communications?from California State University, Fullerton, and a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism and English from the University of Southern California.
OC Waste & Recycling serves the County’s solid waste disposal needs by providing waste management services, operating public landfills, protecting the local environment, investing in renewable energy enterprises and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.
The Sustainability Office was formed in February 2024 to assist not only the County departments and unincorporated communities but also to serve as a centralized location for resources for cities, non-governmental organizations and citizens. The Office is currently working on the first phase of the Climate Action Plan (CAP). The CAP includes a greenhouse gas inventory of all County municipalities and unincorporated regions as well as target sectors of focus, emission reduction measures and the associated co-benefits that the document hopes to achieve.
