On Friday September 27, 2024, Lexington County Fire Service responded to 534 emergency calls for service during Hurricane Helene. Also beginning at 8 a.m. on that Friday until Monday, October 7, 2024 LCFS provided an Engine Company to support the Circle Volunteer Fire Department during their time of grief in the loss of two volunteer firefighters as a direct result of this Hurricane. LCFS deployed three members of SCFT-1 to Pickens County and seven members to Greenville County for a week to assist in the aftermath of the storms. In response to request from North Carolina LCFS deployed four additional members with SCTF-1 to North Carolina to assist in rescue missions.

Often times, emergency personnel do not know the outcomes of those they help, but during the annual Survivor's Breakfast, the men and women of emergency response agencies from around the County have the opportunity to meet those lives they helped to save and their families. During the breakfast, those patients have the chance to thank those emergency responders responsible for saving their lives. We are so thankful to be able to celebrate the lives of our survivors and emergency personnel.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has opened a Business Recovery Centers (BRCs) at the Lexington County Library (5440 Augusta Road, Lexington). The SBA is opening the Centers to assist businesses and residents who were affected by Hurricane Helene. SBA’s Customer Service Representatives are available at the Centers to answer questions, assist business owners complete their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment at an SBA Business Recovery Center in advance. The Center will operate as follows: Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed: Sunday

The Lexington County 22nd Annual Veterans Day Parade is set for Sunday, Nov. 3 starting at 3:30 p.m. in downtown Lexington. Beginning January 1, 2025, Lexington County will begin regulating Short-Term Rental land use activities within the unincorporated jurisdiction of the County. Property owners will now be required to obtain a Short-Term Rental Zoning Permit to legally operate a Short-Term Rental within the County. The permitting process will be done in phases as there are currently more than 650 properties utilized as host sites for Short-Term Rentals within our jurisdiction. The Department of Community Development Zoning Division will be handling conformance with these new regulations. They anticipate the initial wave of compliance letters to be mailed by December of this year. Property owners may also initiate zoning compliances beginning January 1, 2025. Once the initial permitting process has been completed by Zoning staff, access to online Short-Term Rental applications will be made available on the County’s website. All Lexington County administrative offices will be closed today, Friday, September 27, 2024. We will be back open on Monday, September 30th.

Lexington County offices will now operate on a two hour delay. We are expected to open at 10 a.m. Administrative Offices are currently without power. We will continue to monitor and update as needed.
