Happy to announce we closed our first round of VC funding at Counsel Stack to scale our legal research platform. It’s great timing considering the release of deepseek weights and the emergence of replicable legal benchmarks. We did the hard part with no funding first (building MVPs, getting roasted by users, fixing bugs, finding pmf). But that positioned us well and we’re excited to keep growing. The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) tested major legal research platforms and found concerning error rates of 17-34%. They published four example questions. We tested the same questions with Counsel Stack. As more legal LLM evaultation metrics emerge, we will continue to update you with our progress. Here's how we did: 4/4 (screenshots attached) (1) Post-Dobbs constitutional standards: We accurately described current rational basis review (while LexisNexis cited overturned law from 1973) (2) Bankruptcy deadlines: We correctly explained Kontrick v. Ryan's holding (while Westlaw cited non-existent rules) (3) Supreme Court analysis: We accurately described Justice Ginsburg's Obergefell position (while another platform fabricated a copyright dissent) (4) Connecticut dating platform regulations: We cited the correct statute (while GPT-4 invented one) Why does this matter? Incorrect legal answers pose a risk to practitioners and their cients alike, whether generated by an LLM or by an attorney. So, why not have another set of eyes? I’ve been quiet on here for a while. Been listening, learning, and working. But now I have some exciting news.. I’m now admitted to practice law! We’ll focus on compliance with federal regulations and will operate using the Counsel Stack platform. It’ll be interesting to see how this space evolves post Chevron. #counselstack
