"We have always tackled densification by creating a 'three-dimensional city'", explained Nathalie de Vries in her recent interview for CTBUH's Vertical Urbanism Magazine, "not just stacking one type of use upwards, but lifting a mix of urban functions, usually found at ground level, into the air." ? Join Nathalie at the CTBUH 2024 Asia Conference in Bangkok on December 3 for a keynote about how we can move from 'simple' tall buildings to exciting vertical cities. She will also discuss how we can make our high-rises more sustainable, through modular building, high-quality yet low-waste construction, and the reuse and transformation of existing structures. Examples of MVRDV projects she will use are Irwell Residences, The Canyon, the Tour & Taxis Lake Side masterplan, and Shenzhen Women & Children’s Centre. ? Responding to the need for buildings to be connected to and integrated with the broader urban fabric, Nathalie will also explain how we help make buildings and neighbourhoods more walkable, better connected to parks and nature, and form bridges within our cites. ?????? ? CTBUH Europe Director Dario Trabucco was in Bangkok last week presenting the findings of his research in the Lifecycle Cost and Environmental Assessment of tall buildings in Bangkok, Singapore, and Sydney. Speaking at the 2024 ASEAN Iron and Steel Forum: Sustainable Steel and Green Construction, on Tuesday, 19 November, he was alongside other experts who were addressing sustainability in buildings and included: Niwat Thanpitinan, Propertist Co., Ltd.; Chakkrit Luangcharoenrat, Gensler (Thailand) Limited; and Jade Bunruangrod, Emo-D Co., Ltd. Trabucco's research paid particular attention to life cycle cost assessment (LCCA), through all stages of construction, including end-of-life considerations. Stay tuned for announcements of the research report that will be available to our members and will present the results of this extensive study conducted by CTBUH on the environmental and cost implications of different types of tall building structures in three cities of the Asia-Pacific market. Thank you to South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) who led the forum and kindly sponsored this invaluable research.

CTBUH Director of Research Daniel Safarik spoke with Anna Kodé at The New York Times about a new high-rise in the developing area of Queens. The building topped out over the summer at 823 feet (250.9 meters). Safarik says about the changing conditions of the neighborhood, "It is clearly a place that has good views of Manhattan, but it has always been kind of semi-industrial and a bit forlorn." https://lnkd.in/dkuhqf4Z BLDG Management Co., Inc., Perkins Eastman, Triton Construction Company

Last week at "Cityscape Global: The Future of Living" in Riyadh, CTBUH President Antony Wood, Ph.D, was part of the animated discussions about the future of sustainable design and development.
Cityscape Global 2024 It was truly an honor to share the #DnAstage powered by KAFD | ???? with inspiring experts during our panel, ??"Keep It Wild: Biophilia, Parametric Design, and Sustainable Materials." A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Antony Wood, Ph.D, President of Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), for brilliantly moderating the session and guiding our engaging discussions on the future of sustainable architecture. Our conversations spanned continents but revealed many shared themes and innovative solutions. It was fascinating to see how we can collectively push the boundaries of sustainable design. The insights, creativity, and experiences shared by all were truly invaluable: Benjamin Chan, Director at Shenzhen LWK + PARTNERS, for pioneering design and policies around bamboo as a sustainable building material? Yusuke Hotta, Chief Structural Engineer at Mitsubishi Jisho Design Asia, for reinforcing our belief in high-rise timber architecture? Soumia Masmoudi, Urbanist and Founder of Ellearchitecture, for an inspiring work on local and indigenous design Farah Naz FCIBSE, Director of ESG & Innovation at AECOM, for advancing Net Zero City strategies and sustainable urban design As #SUPERSPACE, we had the opportunity to showcase two of our projects from the region: #GardenDunes — A finalist at the #GoldenTrezziniAwards, reimagining sustainable, nature-connected vertical living in downtown #Dubai, harmonizing with nature’s rhythms to optimize energy efficiency #Leafy — Winner of #CoolAbuDhabi and Thessaloniki Design Week Innovation in Public Space, EnergyAwards Finalist; a hybrid ecosystem replicating natural cycles, designed to combat heat waves and urban heat islands in dense, arid urban landscapes like #AbuDhabi. Leafy and Garden Dunes are about creating self-sustaining spaces where people and nature coexist in balance—a reminder that even in the densest urban environments, full of challenges, we can still find ways to #KeepItWild This panel was part of a larger, thoughtfully organized experience, and we want to extend a special shoutout to Lucy Pearce for bringing together such a passionate group of like-minded professionals. Cityscape Global was an exhilarating 4 days that exceeded all our expectations. Excited for the opportunities and ideas that lie ahead! ???? #CityscapeGlobal #CityscapeGlobalKSA #Riyadh #SaudiArabia #KeepItWild #Biophilia #ParametricDesign #SustainableMaterials #HighRiseLiving #GreenArchitecture #UrbanInnovation #NetZero #SmartCities #Sustainability #RegenerativeDesign #CTBUH #tallbuildingguy #LWKPARTNERS #MitsubishiJishoDesignAsia #ElleArchitecture #AECOM #SUPERSPACE #SuperspaceArch #SuperspaceArchitects
