How do we bring people with different expertise and experiences together to align on a path forward in a major health crisis? In April 2020, The Rockefeller Foundation launched the National COVID-19 Testing Action Plan, a comprehensive, non-partisan strategy to expand testing, bridge political divides, and ensure equitable health outcomes. The Rockefeller Foundation officials convened over 150 people across sectors—scientists, engineers, public health officials, drugstore chain leaders, researchers, doctors, nursing organizations, economists, public servants, and businesspeople—to establish the 1-3-30 National Testing Strategy. As a result, weekly testing rose from one million to over 25 million by late 2020, enabling schools and businesses to reopen. This project shows how leveraging partnerships across government, business, and community organizations, engaging diverse perspectives, and prioritizing collective solutions achieves results.
