Did you know prolonged loneliness can have serious health consequences and increases the risk of heart disease, depression, dementia and even mortality? Here are 3 more things you should know this #LonelinessAwarenessWeek: 1?? Widespread Impact: Loneliness is a critical issue affecting millions of older Americans, significantly impacting their health and well-being. It affects all corners of the nation and everything inbetween. 2?? Growing Demographic: The senior population is set to reach 91M BY 2030, with 112M expected by 2060 according to the U.S. Census Bureau – increasing the number of seniors today by nearly half. This makes addressing loneliness among older adults increasingly urgent. 3?? Public Health Issue: Loneliness is more than just a feeling of sadness or isolation; it is a public health issue. Isolation can lead to a decline in physical and emotional health, requiring our immediate attention. The U.S. Surgeon General has even declared loneliness an epidemic. We witness the profound difference that companionship and regular interaction can make in the lives of seniors. By working together, we can ensure that no senior feels forgotten or isolated. By volunteering, donating or simply spreading the word about the impact of loneliness (share this post!), you can join in our mission and make a difference.
