The Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization comprised of 17 western State Foresters and six U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Island Foresters. CWSF promotes the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of forests for today and generations to come by leading collective action, fostering learning, facilitating resource sharing, providing credible expertise and information, carrying out outreach and advocacy, and engaging with partners.

Last week, attendees from across the western region gathered in Missoula, MT for our 2024 Fall Meeting. This meeting is an important opportunity for CWSF and WFLC members to discuss regional topics, issues of shared importance, and forthcoming opportunities. During the Fall Meeting, attendees heard from CWSF and WFLC committees on 2024 accomplishments and proposed actions for 2025. Attendees also engaged in a USDA Forest Service Research & Development interactive session that showcased applied science research relevant to WFLC members. Thanks to the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation for hosting our group for a tour of the DNRC campus to visit the seedling nursery, helicopter hangar, and equipment development center. ?? ?? Request for Information (RFI) - Ponderosa Pine Symposium The CWSF Forest Products Committee is seeking input to help shape a Ponderosa Pine Symposium. This symposium will focus on enhancing ponderosa pine utilization by sharing the latest research, success stories, and emerging technologies, as well as resources for long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the ponderosa pine sector. The symposium aims to create a forward-looking roadmap that addresses key industry needs, fosters innovation, and identifies potential resources and support. This RFI will help refine the symposium and develop an RFP for planning and facilitation services.
