Founded in 1979, LiveOn NY is a membership organization of nonprofit aging services dedicated to making New York a better place to age by building better public policies and strengthening services for older New Yorkers. LiveOn NY grew out of a coalition of senior service organizations that had been meeting informally to share their views, expand their knowledge and discuss better ways to deal with government agencies and serve seniors. From this group and out of this need, LiveOn NY was formally established as a citywide not-for-profit organization. Today, LiveOn NY is recognized as the lead NYC-based organization representing senior services and aging issues, advocating for needed community based services that allow older adults to age with independence and dignity. With over 100 member organizations providing more than 800 community based services programs, LiveOn NY’s members range from individual community-based centers to large multi-service, citywide organizations and serve over 300,000 older adults annually. LiveOn NY’s work ranges from enabling healthy aging and supporting family caregivers to promoting economic security and addressing elder hunger. Through its network and initiatives, LiveOn NY serves the all older New Yorkers from every community district and socioeconomic background.

Here is LiveOn NY's statement together with Senate Chair on Aging Cordell Clear, Assembly Chair on Aging Rebecca Seawright and Council Aging Committee Chair Crystal Hudson on today's dissolution of the Administration for Community Living (ACL). These moves are part of a continued assault on the 4.8 million older adults and 4.1 family caregivers in New York State — new red tape strangling Social Security, threats to emergency food assistance, ongoing efforts to undermine Medicaid, and, now, the dismantling of our nation’s aging support infrastructure altogether. This isn’t policy. It’s abandonment. And hardworking New Yorkers and Americans who have paid into these systems for decades deserve far better than this. “We should be doubling, tripping, quadrupling on investments for older adult services to meet and match that population increase. A trend for this budget was that the Council fought really hard to restore a lot of the cuts that the mayor had made. But we need to go beyond just restoring those cuts, we need to now actually invest deeply in these programs and services for New Yorkers,” said Councilmember and Chair of Committee on Aging Crystal Hudson. Thank you City Limits and Subeksha Poudel for your journalism to show that NYC needs to commit significantly more money and resources to ensure that older New Yorkers have access to basic human needs. Amazing morning at Bronx Borough Hall with Hon. Vanessa L. Gibson, MPA (She, Her, Hers, Ella) as LiveOn NY joined over 100 older New Yorkers to call for a capital fund to repair the city’s 300+ older adult centers (OACs) and denounce the Adams administration’s proposed $18 million cuts OACs. We were also joined by State Senator Nathalia Fernandez. Thank you LiveOn members who attended today! AARP New York, Acacia Network/IPRHE, BronxWorks, CenterLight Health System, Emerald Isle Immigration Center, JASA, The New York Academy of Medicine, PSS, Riverdale Y (JCC), RSS-Riverdale Senior Services, WSFSSH, Inc., & YMCA of Greater New York. “In 2024, I want more programs for older adults. I want more resources. I want all of you to have everything you rightfully deserve as New Yorkers,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. “You have built this city to be what it is today and we owe you.
