Rx Kids, a groundbreaking program providing unconditional cash prescriptions to expecting mothers and infants, is expanding to Pontiac—the first city in Southeast Michigan to launch the program—in mid-2025. This program delivers $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month for the baby's first six months, aiming to strengthen families and reduce childhood poverty. The expansion is supported by $8.5 million in funding, including a $1 million investment from the Pontiac Funders Collaborative, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.?Read More: https://lnkd.in/gRuZPkvM

Members of our CMF community engaged with policymakers last month during Foundations on the Hill (FOTH) 2025, presented by United Philanthropy Forum and in partnership with the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector. In the policymaker meetings, CMF members shared opportunities for philanthropy and government to work in partnership and advocated for issues that support flexible philanthropy and strengthen our communities. CMF staff shared legislative “asks” with our policymakers, including: ?? Encouraging policymakers to include philanthropy in tax reform conversations that may affect our sector and our ability to support our communities.? ?? Underscoring the importance of ensuring nonprofits have access to federal funding that, especially dollars Congress has already allocated. Promoting the importance of endowed philanthropy and donor intent to ensure that philanthropy can provide resources for charitable activities that support communities now and into the future. ?? Asking for support on the Charitable Act which would create tax fairness across all income levels, allowing tax deductions for charitable contributions for those who do not itemize. ?? In response to growing man-made and natural disasters around the country, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County wanted to be prepared to respond if and when a disaster impacted Michigan’s Thumb region. The community foundation’s Disaster Response Fund resulted in new relationships built with emergency responders and in January, an apartment complex in rural St. Clair County burned prompting the fund to be activated within hours, providing immediate assistance to victims.
