Happy World Prematurity Day! With over 13 million babies born too soon every year, prematurity is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in neonates. The numbers are staggering: every 2 seconds, a baby is born too soon, and every 40 seconds, one of these babies will die. The survival gap is immense: 9 in 10 extremely preterm babies survive in high-income countries. Only 1 in 10 survive in low-income countries. Almost all these deaths are preventable. Together, we can make a difference and save countless lives. We are making progress, but we need to move faster. Every newborn, everywhere, counts. This World Prematurity Day, the Council of International Neonatal Nurses (COINN) urges everyone to read the Born Too Soon Report. It’s a roadmap for action to close the survival gap, improve outcomes for preterm babies, and ensure equitable care for all newborns. Let’s work together to bridge the gap. Whether you’re a healthcare provider, policymaker, or advocate, we all have a role to play. Happy World Prematurity Day! Together, we can ensure that every baby has a chance to thrive. #WorldPrematurityDay #NewbornHealth #BornTooSoon #COINN #EveryNewbornCounts
