The leading trade association of the dietary supplement / functional food industry—since 1973
关于我们
The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), founded in 1973 and based in Washington, D.C., is the leading trade association representing dietary supplement and functional food manufacturers and ingredient suppliers. CRN companies produce a large portion of the dietary supplements marketed in the United States and globally. Our member companies manufacture popular national brands as well as the store brands marketed by major supermarkets, drug stores and discount chains. These products also include those marketed through natural food stores and mainstream direct selling companies. CRN represents more than 150 companies that manufacture dietary ingredients and/or dietary supplements, or supply services to those suppliers and manufacturers. Our member companies are expected to comply with a host of federal and state regulations governing dietary supplements in the areas of manufacturing, marketing, quality control and safety. Our supplier and manufacturer member companies also agree to adhere to additional voluntary guidelines as well as to CRN’s Code of Ethics.

In a one-source article that appeared on Fox News TV's website by Angelica Stabile (https://lnkd.in/djb3KgWz) UK interviewee Amina Khan, who is the founder of "an active ingredients-based skincare and supplements brand," is quoted as saying of gummy supplements: "Some of these gummies don’t even have enough nutrients in them to have an effect on you." The fact of the matter is that gummy supplements marketed legally in the United States are required by the FDA to have 100 percent of the nutrients listed on the label for the entire time they are sold in the store (i.e. before they expire). To say, as Ms. Khan did, that they are "just a sugar pill," is a sweeping mischaracterization of what is actually a class of product marketed by major manufacturers of supplements who continually invest millions of dollars into the research and development of these products to ensure they comply with federal regulations related to dosage. As bad is Khan's assertion that multivitamins have "'a bit of everything' in them...(that the actual nutrients in them are) so low they hardly have an effect on you." Also patently wrong for the same reason as mentioned above. Perhaps if Ms. Stabile interviewed multiple sources for her story, including those that don't own their own supplement companies, she would have discovered that regulations in the United States ensure supplements are made according to good manufacturing practices, and that both multivitamins and gummy supplements are used effectively by millions of people everyday to improve their health and wellness.

In an article in Men's Health by Julie Stewart (https://lnkd.in/evn_5F5P) the author unfortunately conflates the regulatory definition of "supplements" with the term "nutraceuticals," insisting that consumers might be consuming "nutraceuticals" without even knowing because the term is not indicated on product labels. But in fact, the term "nutraceuticals" is non-regulatory parlance for "supplements," and all legally-marketed supplements do indicate that they are supplements on the label via the Supplement Facts panel. A consumer would know if they are taking a "nutraceutical" by merely looking for the Supplement Facts label on the product.
