CIDA was honored to attend the CIDQ 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, on November 8-9, a milestone event that brought together leaders and advocates from across the interior design profession. Over two days, we joined regulatory board staff, CIDQ Delegates, representatives from professional organizations, credentialing bodies, and CIDQ past leaders to engage in meaningful discussions on the NCIDQ Exam, state and provincial regulations, and CIDQ’s strategic direction. The meeting provided a valuable platform for exchanging tools, exploring new ideas, and collaborating on advancing standards within our field. The event included a welcome reception, insightful sessions, and witnessing Vincent G Carter, FASID, NCIDQ of CIDA’s Board being honored with the prestigious Louis S. Tregre Award for his remarkable contributions to CIDQ and the interior design profession. Vincent joins an elite group of design leaders who have left a lasting impact on our industry. The summit culminated in the ACHIEVE Gala — a celebration of CIDQ’s five-decade legacy in elevating interior design standards. It was an inspiring experience to connect with peers and contribute to discussions that will shape the future of design regulation. Yesterday, the CIDA Standards Structure Task Force convened to explore the evolving landscape of interior design education standards. With an eye toward the future, the task force is examining critical areas like STEM vs. STEAM integration, DEI, AI's impact, and addressing enrollment challenges. Their mission: to ensure CIDA Standards remain effective, relevant, and adaptable to new educational and industry needs. Consistency in site reviews and anticipating shifts in the profession are essential steps in preparing the next generation of designers.
