Attendees can look forward to a diverse collection of architectural styles across newly constructed homes, remodels, energy retrofits,?multi-family projects, all electric homes, and certified Passive House projects. Previous tours have hosted over 400 attendees?including curious college students, industry professionals, and homeowners who are eager to see latest?in high performance construction and learn about the techniques that make the magic happen. This home features solar orientation, geothermal heating and cooling, solar power, and recycled insulation materials. We'll be discussing why and how we specify different insulations at different areas of the house. This jobsite also features robust jobsite recycling, so come learn how we minimize waste and divert materials from the landfill. Please dress appropriately for an active construction site. We are beyond excited that our project hit a?0.032 on our recent blower door test. This level of airtightness signifies the building having the potential for an incredible level of energy efficiency – above and beyond what is needed as a passive home. What is a blower door test? During a blower door test, a powerful fan is mounted, generally onto an exterior door of the home. This creates negative pressure inside the building. This negative pressure causes outside air to infiltrate the building through any weak points. That is any cracks, gaps, or even slight air leaks in the walls, roof, or floor. The blower door test measures the rate of air infiltration, which is a key indicator of a building's airtightness. In passive homes, the recommended air infiltration rate is typically much lower than that of conventional homes. Passive house certification requires an air infiltration rate of no more than 0.06 ACH50. Achieving this level of airtightness requires careful attention to detail during construction and the use of high-quality materials and insulation. As we are in the process of finishing our first Passive House, we thought we would share an article that discusses how Passive House design is setting the stage for highly energy-efficient buildings. "Creating highly energy-efficient buildings through five basic principles: thermal insulation; highly efficient windows; ventilation with heat recovery; air tightness; and thermal bridge free design. We’re building in Lyons! A stunning new custom home is currently being built for a young family. Construction is well under way, and we are starting from the ground up to make sure that this home is as energy efficient as possible. This will include the installation of solar panels, geothermal energy systems, and high-quality windows and framing to create a tight envelope. Our goal is to keep the home healthy for many years to come! We are thrilled to have this project featured in Boulder Magazine! Renovating this early 1900s cottage in Boulder has been an incredible journey. While the home had good bones and a great location, it lacked a sense of flow in its interior. We deconstructed the home to reveal its full potential! The home’s envelope received a much-needed makeover, with upgrades made to all of the insulation in the roof and walls. Additionally, energy-efficient windows were installed. Furthermore, we eliminated an enclosed pantry between the kitchen and dining room, resulting in a clear connection from one end of the house all the way to the back. In addition, skylights have been added in the kitchen to dramatically brighten up this space!
