关于我们
COTS is a nonprofit organization nationally recognized as a model due to the successful outcomes of our programs. COTS provides emergency shelter, support services, prevention resources, and housing for those without homes or at risk of homelessness. We Believe: In the value and dignity of every human life That housing is a fundamental human right That emergency shelter is not the solution to homelessness Since 1982 COTS has been serving people experiencing homelessness and at risk Vermont community members in Chittenden County and beyond. We have multiple shelters to meet the needs of our individuals and families, including: the Waystation, our overnight shelter; the Daystation, our daytime drop in shelter; and our Family Shelters, specifically for parents with children. But we don't stop there...we go beyond providing safe shelters for those in need. We also have a team dedicated to supporting currently or at risk individuals experiencing homelessness with finding resources available to them through state and federal programs, assistance from other local community resources, and other additional support as needed. We believe in empowering these individuals to ensure a transition out of shelter housing into long term affordable housing is attainable and sustainable.

A wonderful ribbon cutting today, celebrating the collaboration of so many partners to create affordable, efficient, housing in our downtown for families that have endured homelessness. I’m proud to have been a part of this project with so many talented folks from COTS, Evernorth, Duncan-Wisniewski Architecture, and so many more! https://lnkd.in/et4rGbnD

These days at the COTS Daystation, we are feeding 60-80 people a day, 365 days a year. A recent grant landed us this new fridge, and a matching freezer, greatly increasing our storage capacity. It allows us to bring in food in bulk through partners like Vermont Foodbank, gleaning programs, and farm-to-table programs, providing fresh, nutritious food to the neighbors we serve. A second generous private donation got us a serious new grill! Many faith communities, businesses, clubs and individuals volunteer to prepare and serve food at the Daystation. Come down and get cookin’! More information and a sign-up calendar may be found here: https://lnkd.in/eiuw7bwA

KeyBank did a phenomenal job helping us for Neighbors Make the Difference Day! They created a beautiful lunch for our 60 Daystation guests, put on a wonderful financial education (optional) for them too, and gardened at Saint John’s Hall- our residents were SO thrilled. Thank you all for making a difference for us.

The issues of lack of affordable housing and homelessness in the Burlington area are pressing, and I'm often asked, "What is the COTS response?" The answer is longer than an elevator pitch. We operate our Daystation drop-in for shelter for single adults, Housing-Focused overnight shelter for 43 adults, and Housing-Focused Shelter for 15 families. We have community outreach for those in emergency motels and for families. We operate 106 units of permanent, affordable housing for households who have experienced homelessness. In fiscal year '23, we helped 105 households move from homelessness into housing. Every night, 200 people are safe, warm and working on their next steps under a COTS roof.
