DeepSeek makes headlines whenever they do something – this wasn't any different when they released V3-0324 yesterday. While the media focus was on their improved intelligence, I think the team behind DeepSeek is trying to solve a much bigger issue they face: The model is incredibly slow! (see attached) To build powerful Agentic applications, you need fast (and still accurate) models – DeepSeek's model trails behind all other state-of-the-art models. Depending on what tests you look at, the speed of DeepSeek-V3 to V3-0324 improved between 10-20%. That's nothing to cry about, but it's also not the step function they require to see widespread Agentic adoption.
