LOOK WHO'S IN THE SPOTLIGHT!! Dr. El-Ghali’s journey into the world of optometry began humbly, pushing carts at the Canoga Park, CA Costco warehouse after graduating high school in 2006. Over time, his curiosity and work ethic led him to explore various departments, from the front end and major sales, to the deli and food court. But it was his time in the optical department that set him on a life-changing path. Fascinated by the world of eyecare, Dr. El-Ghali became a certified optician and discovered his passion for helping others see clearly. After a decade of opticianry experience, Dr. El-Ghali was inspired to discovery the world of optometry. In 2017, he was accepted into the optometry program at the Inter American University (IAU) in Puerto Rico. Leaving his Costco family after more than 11 years was bittersweet, but he was ready to take on the challenges ahead. Those challenges came quickly, as his first year of study was disrupted by back-to-back hurricanes, leaving him without power or water for weeks. Despite the hardships, he persevered, crediting his years at Costco for instilling the resilience and adaptability that helped him navigate this difficult time. Dr. El-Ghali’s alignment with Costco’s core values made his return in 2021 as an independent optometrist a natural fit. Observing Costco’s dedication to member service during his tenure as an employee inspired him to build his own practice within the same culture of quality and care. “I saw firsthand how well Costco members were treated, and I believed that same dedication to service could translate to healthcare,” he remarked. Dr. El-Ghali’s journey at Costco comes full circle with a renewed perspective. After gaining valuable experience as an associate OD under the mentorship of a tenured Costco independent optometrist, he recently took over the practice after their retirement. This tenured doctor, known for their dedication and commitment to patient care, left a legacy that Dr. El-Ghali is determined to uphold. Dr. El-Ghali prioritizes building relationships with patients, echoing Costco’s values of trust and satisfaction. His professional goals include expanding his practice, embracing advancements in optometry like dry eye treatment and myopia control, and continuing to collaborate with fellow Costco optometrists. He shared that, “If done properly, the loyalty Costco has cultivated among its members translates into loyalty for the practice.”

LOOK WHO'S IN THE SPOTLIGHT! We recently sat down with Dr. Bissessar to?hear about her experience as a new Costco leaseholder. CO: What drew you to Costco originally?? LB: I originally wanted to lease with Costco because it seemed like it would offer a hassle free, stream-lined way to build a practice which would allow me to focus more time on patients and to do more of the things I went to school for. And so far, it has been exactly that. CO: What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far? LB: Best career lesson I learned so far is to be adaptable and flexible. Treatments, technology and patient care is constantly changing especially after the pandemic. Be always open and ready to grow and change with the times. CO: What do you like most about being an optometrist? LB: In addition to being a low stress career I like being an optometrist because I get to meet a diverse group of people and I love helping people see the world more clearly and comfortably. CO: What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know? LB: A fun fact about me is that I love to interior decorate and I offer my friends and family input often
