[TransformERS event] Training School on Sustainability Transformations and?Epistemic Injustice, 22-24/06/2024, Leeds, UK https://lnkd.in/du8YQegu Dear All, I would like to draw your attention to the TransformERS summer school and the opportunities to apply to attend (or recommend to your friends and colleagues). Our first Training School will be held on 22-24th June 2025, and will be based in Leeds, UK. Addressing Epistemic Injustice in Sustainability Transformations, the Training School will interweave inputs, dialogues and creative sessions with leading academics to consider: Whose knowledge counts when thinking about and pursuing sustainability transformations? Where do our theories about transitions, transformations, and transformative change come from? What perspectives about transformation and sustainability do we privilege or include and what perspectives do we marginalise or exclude? But also: What can we do to have marginalised perspectives and voices enter the conversation about sustainability and transformation? What transformation do our research practices and spaces need to go through to create transformative change? What about ourselves as academics and as researchers? On February 27th, White Research, as part of the EU BIOTRAILS project, organised the 2nd webinar of the #TransformativeChange Seminar series, “Methodologies for Mapping Systems Interactions,” which was hosted by theEcosystem Services Partnership ?? Bringing together 135+ participants from #research, #policy and beyond the session explored cutting-edge methodologies in #biodiversity monitoring, featuring insights from EU BIOTRAILS, BIONEXT Project, CircHive and MOSAIC Horizon Europe projects. ?? ?? Discussions focused on methodologies that integrate environmental impact assessment, policy design and behavioural insights. ?? As a partner of #SBTN, we’re pleased to support the launch of these new targets, which provide a standardized framework to help companies move beyond traditional sustainability commitments, scale action, and build more resilient seafood supply chains. ?? The ocean is critical for all life on earth and foundational to the world’s economies. For the seafood sector, healthy ecosystems and stable fish stocks are critical for long term business resilience. By setting targets and taking action accordingly, companies can help address key drivers of ocean degradation and support healthy ecosystems for all.? ?? These ocean targets complement the existing freshwater and land #ScienceBasedTargets, enabling companies to use SBTN’s methodology across diverse supply chains and geographies, from ridge to reef. Very happy to see this study published. This work presents a unique case study of a #constructedwetland for #municipalwastewater treatment and #reuse built for the Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia. This facility is the largest CW #worldwide for this wastewater source, designed for an inflow of 16,000 m3/day equivalent to up to 80,000 inhabitants. Here we present the first two years of operation and the respective performance, during which the CW system operated at about 50% of its design capacity (as the whole project will develop until 2030). Design modifications such as effluent #recirculation and raw wastewater #stepfeeding are also discussed regarding their contribution towards meeting the effluent standard for reuse. Overall, high removal rates (90–99%) are achieved for TSS, BOD, COD, TN, NH4-N and TP. This large-scale system demonstrates that CW technology can be an effective #ecologicalengineering solution for sustainable #wastewatermanagement that can promote a #circulareconomy of #water even under the most difficult environmental conditions such as the desert climate and at the largest scale. ?? Interested in how cities can become more inclusive? ????? In Lucca, the innovative project IN-HABIT is reshaping urban spaces by integrating human-animal interactions into city planning! Researchers, policymakers, and citizens have co-designed a Hum–Animal Smart City, where pet-friendly policies and nature-based solutions (NBS) improve well-being and social inclusion. ?? Key insights from the project: ? Public–Private–People Partnerships (PPPPs) helped design Animal Lines, dedicated spaces for animal-assisted activities, pet-friendly services, and education. ? Community participation led to new solutions, including pet care education, inclusive tourism, youth programs, and pet awareness initiatives in schools. ? Collaboration with municipalities is key—public institutions must align with community needs to drive real change.
