SpaceKind isn’t the type of training you think it is—it’s an experience that transforms the way you see yourself and your place in the world. Over the past eight weeks, our cohort explored vulnerability, courage, and connection, building the skills to lead authentically and inspire others to do the same. This journey challenged me to dig deeper, asking not just what I want to achieve but why. Beyond my work and academic goals, I reflected on my mission as a human being: to foster connectedness in all aspects of my life. To break the stereotype of the “cold scientist” and show that science thrives when it’s rooted in humanity, collaboration, and care. Through every discussion, I’ve learned to listen more openly and to embrace challenges with grace. I’m so grateful to my incredible cohort for their honesty, support, and belief in creating a brighter, more connected future. SpaceKind was a reminder that leadership is about more than achieving goals—it’s about the relationships we build, the courage we share, and the impact we leave behind. Here’s to taking bold steps, together. Thank you to Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides for always showing up ready to lead incredible discussions, and to Sarah Kalmeta for guiding the ‘Cosmic Pivoteers’ with such dedication, and ensuring we stayed focused and accountable to our goals.?#cosmiccitizen #spacekind #SK14 Cosmic Citizen Trainings, Inc.

Three Things I learned at New Worlds Conference, NASA Space Center Houston: 1 - ?? We need a cultural value shift in policy and funding for Life Sciences. Planning for longer term human space presence beyond the Magnetosphere continues to be significantly lacking with regards to Life Sciences. The human body and psyche is not understood, nor is microbial evolution, ecosystem science, or agriculture. Funding and attention for life science research needed is cannibalized by engineering. Yes we have to get there ?? and have life support systems ????. But we cannot thrive in space without massively funding life sciences across the board. 2 - ?? The next generation of space stations is right around the corner, we got to review 4 commercial companies deep in manufacturing preparing to fulfill a demand for research, manufacturing and hospitality in orbit. I am hopeful this technology can be used deep in cis lunar space to do some of that life science research we need so badly. 3 - ?? Space enthusiasts are certainly some of the most optimistic people on the planet (and beyond?) The movement of true global connection and envisioning a future where we dance among the stars and find harmony with Earth is alive and well. Brilliant and ambitious leaders are pushing and riding this next wave of space exploration. AND, we could all use more tangible reminders about the reality of the challenges we face that cannot be fixed with technology. We must work harder to expand our minds bridging the Earth and human elements. ?? ? It was a joy to present on Cosmic Citizen Trainings, Inc. upcoming programs, and how we are working to bridge that gap between personal evolution and planetary preservation to ensure a thriving future on Earth and beyond. Thank you to Rick Tumlinson, Luci K. Prosapio, Leah Cheli Doolittle, Sarah Kalmeta, and the entire Sempre Events and EarthLight Foundation team that created this important event and community. #CosmicCitizen #NewWorlds2024 #SpaceCulture #FindYourPlaceInSpace #EarthLightFoundation #EarthLight #NewWorlds #EarthSpace #spacekind #NASA #SpaceCenterHouston #SempreEvents

I am excited to share that I have finished SpaceKind training level 1. SpaceKind is a new kind of space training. Each week of the eight weeks, we had the opportunity to discuss one chapter from the book, ' The New Right Stuff: Using Space to Bring Out the Best in You'. The course taught us the soft skills that we need to have to connect with others, work with anyone, communicate in a way that honors everyone, stay calm under pressure, diffuse tense situations, and also be honorable, vulnerable, and inspiring. We learned to have the courage to ask for help whenever needed, to dream big, to listen to others with an open heart and mind, to speak with love and respect, and to take action to be a force for good. We focused on vulnerability. It is about sharing ourselves fully and creating that culture to be more open with one another, sharing our true selves, not just our work selves. We learned to put our goals inside a bigger goal, to follow our dreams, and to give others the courage to follow theirs as well. My big goal is to be a space roboticist, an engineer who designs, tests, analyzes, and manufactures robots that can serve in space missions. My bigger goal is to get Jordan to have access to space projects and advanced robotics projects and to open the door for more girls and women to pursue their dreams in STEM fields especially engineering and mechanical engineering. Challenge accepted! I truly thank my team for being open during our meetings. We talked about how to make bold decisions, how to choose the battles that matter to us the most, and how to embrace failure and rejection. You are AWESOME, and I wish you all the best. A good reminder why we do what we do. Also a reminder that the next SpaceKind Training begins Wednesday 1q Sept. not is the time to enroll in this 8 week progam that will help you formulate your Mission, clean up your life, do hard things, and find strength in your humanity. https://lnkd.in/gEbDCDju #spacekind #cosmiccitizen
I was honored to be introduced to Cristina Star at Cosmic Citizen Trainings by incredible planetary geologist colleague Ruby Patterson. As a long time space industrialist, it is clear that the ethical and sustainable development of space is paramount so that the benefits and opportunities are shared by 'all humankind'. Or as the extraordinarily talented Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides coined, for 'all SpaceKind' Please watch some of their incredible panels, and sign up for the next cohort! See you there. Thank you also and sincerest love to Rebecca Lee Russell for the inspiration and 'chasing the of light'. https://lnkd.in/gfM4wygS #cosmiccitizentrainings #spacekind #cristinastar #lorettahidalgowhitesides #forallmankind #ForAllMankind #forallhumankind #forallspacekind #911memorial #reflectingabsence #NYC #newyork #worldtradecenter

I am going through the 800 page text "Cost Effective Space Missions Operations" by NASA and the DoD. It is a painfully detailed operations manual for project managing space missions. On occasion, it relates to the human elements at play. I wanted to share this excerpt that they prioritize in the Launch & Early Orbit (L&EO) phase: "Operations Team:?People will be anxious, stressed, and possibly tired?(depending on the pace of activities leading up to launch). Conflict is a real possibility, but we can lessen it with discipline, a high state of readiness, good operations products that reduce confusion, minimal voice traffic, frequent status messages to keep everyone informed, and calm reactions. Selecting the operations team and shift assignments, skill matching the team to each other and to the timeline, and developing a timeline with a moderate activity level reduce stress and conflict..... Although L&EO is the most challenging phase, it’s also the most rewarding. We should enter it with optimism, control, confidence, and a readiness to deviate from the plans.... We can expect problems. If the team can stay rational and controlled, avoiding quick reactions and hasty conclusions, L&EO operations will be smooth." If you are going to be on a mission team, or in a management position, do you have the skillset to work with the heightened stress and conflict, personally and with your team? Are you ready to display unwavering optimism, control, confidence, and a readiness to deviate from the plans? Can you pause reactions and conclusions and communicate clearly in high stakes fast paced moments? This is where #SpaceKind Leadership Training comes in. ** There are essential emotional skills required in this line of work, and you must put in the effort to learn and practice those as much as you learn and practice any engineering discipline. ** **We need much more of the capacity to remain calm, communicate well, and perform under stress. Not jumping to conclusions may be one of the most peace-inducing capacities you ever develop. ** Because, of course, these abilities are universally applicable and benefit your entire life. #spacemissions #nasa #spacex #blueorigin #axiom #cosmiccitizen #emotionalintelligence #highstakes
