Today Conexus Indiana gathered the Advanced Industry Council together to discuss the state of the workforce. We toured the Wood-Mizer LLC facility in Batesville, and then headed to Batesville High School to check out their Innovation Center. During the council meeting, we heard from Batesville Superintendent Paul Ketcham about how the program came into existence and the benefits he’s seen for their students. “Work-based learning allows the students to learn in the community, ?? interact with professionals and learn those social and professional skills, and better understand career pathways to find the right match for them.” Students leave the program with up to 30 college credit hours, which is about a $20k savings in educational costs and a jump start on their career. ?? “Our classrooms are no longer our 4 walls. Our classrooms are our zip codes.” We also heard from Dr. Katie Jenner, the Secretary of Education for the Indiana Department of Education about the changing Indiana high school diploma requirements, which intentionally make more room for STEM curriculum, electives, and work-based learning. ????
