A look back at the first tugboat to achieve an Underwater Noise Notation (UWN) awarded by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and why that’s important. Marine battery systems operate almost silently and produce minimal vibration, resulting in environmental improvements for marine ecosystems, vessel operators, and coastal communities alike. ➡️ The ABS UWN is a class specification regarding underwater radiated noise and vibration, awarded for ultra-quiet vessel operations. 🏆 The first tugboat to receive a UWN is the HaiSea Wamis, one in a fleet of battery-electric tugs that Robert Allan Ltd. designed for HaiSea Marine, a joint venture between the Haisla Nation and Seaspan ULC. In the HaiSea Marine battery-electric tugboat fleet, the HaiSea Wamis, Wee’git, and the Brave are all powered by a Corvus Energy battery system. ➡️ Quoting a HaiSea Marine press release “the Wamis is so quiet that it would take 10x ElectRA running side-by-side to produce the same underwater noise as a single conventional diesel tug.” Reducing noise and vibration are key to protecting marine ecosystems in the Douglas Channel in the District of Kitimat in Canada where the tugs operate assisting LNG Canada carriers. 🌍 Likewise in harbors around the world, battery-electric vessels have the potential to significantly reduce underwater radiated noise, protecting sensitive marine ecosystems. This is in addition to the emissions and carbon footprint reduction benefits of battery-powered operations. A mighty ship indeed, Van Oord's Boreas is the largest offshore installation vessel of its kind, purpose-built for the transport and installation of next generation foundations and turbines at offshore wind farms. The newbuild hybrid vessel features an innovative, dual fuel engine able to run on methanol. ABB supplied the integrated power, automation and propulsion system that incorporates a Corvus Energy battery system. The battery system will be used for peak loads and to regenerate energy, contributing to reduced fuel consumption and emissions for this groundbreaking offshore installation vessel. #maritime #offshoreenergy #windpower #innovation #batteryhybrid #methanol #emissionsreduction #energyefficiency #energystorage #energystoragesystem #batterysystem
What a mighty ship! A great experience to see Boreas of Van Oord in Amsterdam and see the 6.5MWh Corvus Energy battery system that manage peak loads and regenerate energy to further reduce fuel consumption! For further details: https://lnkd.in/ec6EcdHV

Great discussions at #Havlunch this week. The panel session was hosted by Maritime CleanTech as part of the more than 100 different events during One Ocean Week in Bergen, discussing the next steps for Norwegian Shipping. Camilla Neumann-Berg from #Plug started off by talking about how we can rethink charging and make energy hubs utilize the infrastructure much more efficiently. Next was Silje Glesnes from Bergen Havn AS (Port of Bergen), explaining how we need a steady course with predictable regulations to create economically feasible and sustainable business models. Our Commercial Director, Halvard Hauso and Bjørn Sturle Hillestad VP Sales & Marketing from Zinus AS, brought the supplier's insight into the discussion. They both highlighted the importance of having a domestic market in place for all the supplier to build competence and experience before exporting globally. The panel was rounded off by a discussion between moderator Håvard Tvedte, Stian Jean Opedal Davies, fylkesvaraordfører from Arbeiderpartiet and Jacob Mæhle, finansbyråd from Høyre on what they can do to help us reach our goals. #OneOcean #Sustainableocean #Collaboration #poweringacleanfuture

A look back at the world’s first LNG dual-fuel e-shuttle tanker with a revolutionary, environmentally friendly design, the Aurora Spirit. Built by Samsung Heavy Industries in close cooperation with Wärtsilä and delivered to Altera Infrastructure (formerly Teekay Offshore) in 2021, the 130,000dwt tanker features an innovative gas-electric power system that incorporates a battery system from Corvus Energy. The power system design enables the vessel to achieve significant emissions reductions and fuel savings, including: - 47% CO2 reduction - NOx emissions reduced by 80% - SOx emissions reduced by 95% - Annual fuel consumption reduced by 22% Fueled primarily by LNG and secondarily by a mixture of LNG and recovered VOCs emitted from the tanker’s oil cargos, the vessel’s reuse of VOCs as fuel is an innovative feature that significantly contributes to emissions reduction. The tanker uses #batteries to save fuel, achieve peak load shaving/offset engine loads, and to provide redundant power for blackout prevention. Unlike a traditional propulsion system where the propeller is controlled by a combustion engine through its shaft directly linked to the propeller, Aurora Spirit’s engines feed the on-board electric grid and excess power is stored in the batteries. Congratulations to all the partners involved in welcoming the first LNG carrier to the LNG Canada Kitimat facility. Corvus Energy is proud to have supplied the battery systems that power the all-electric tugboats that operate in in Kitimat, in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation in Canada. The three HaiSea Marine etugs, the HaiSea Brave, Wee’git and Wamis, are Robert Allan Ltd. designed ElectRA 2800 battery-electric tugs built by Sanmar Shipyards. HaiSea Marine is majority owned by the Haisla Nation in partnership with Seaspan ULC. Notably, the HaiSea Wamis was named 2023 Tug of the Year (as awarded by TugTechnology). #maritime #maritimeinnovation #batterysystem #batteryhybrid #energystorage #workboats #tugboats #Canada #HaislaNation
We’re pleased to announce that today, in a well-coordinated effort with HaiSea Marine personnel and tugboats, BC Coast Pilots Ltd. and Pacific Pilotage Authority - Administration de pilotage du Pacifique, with support from the Canadian Coast Guard and Canada Border Services Agency, our marine team welcomed for the first time an LNG carrier to the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. The Maran Gas Roxana safely arrived carrying a cargo of liquefied natural gas that will be offloaded into our facility for equipment testing. This activity is critical to our safe start-up and commissioning process in advance of our operations, and to achieving our first LNG export cargoes by the middle of 2025. LNG Canada wishes to thank all of the individuals and organizations involved with helping us safely reach today’s important milestone. Together, we’re making history. Please visit us at lngcanada.ca for more information about today’s LNG delivery.
