Beyond Sound Absorption: Measuring the Noise Standard industry tests focus on how well materials absorb sound, but we took it a step further. We wanted to measure the noise our furniture actually creates when impacted. We recently partnered with an independent lab to conduct a unique test, analyzing the sound levels generated when different furniture materials were struck with a metal object. The results? Some commonly used materials produced noise levels exceeding 100 dB (equivalent to a jackhammer) while ours significantly reduced impact noise. Why does this matter? In high-stress environments, excessive noise can increase agitation, disrupt communication, and escalate tensions. By understanding how different materials respond to impact, we’re making informed design choices to help create safer, quieter spaces. Let’s rethink noise together. Want to know more? Let’s talk. #Innovation #AcousticTesting #FurnitureDesign

We are thrilled to share that Joseph Claffy, our founder and president, recently spoke with students at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He engaged with participants in the Entrepreneurship for Science and Medicine mini-course, providing real-world insights to complement their studies in intellectual property and life sciences. Joe’s perspective brought these concepts to life, demonstrating how they translate into business decisions, challenges, and opportunities. His discussion highlighted the intersection of innovation, commercialization, and problem-solving in industries that directly impact patient care and public health. A big thank you to Robert Altman for the opportunity!

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s built into the way we manufacture at Cortech. ?? 100% Recyclable Materials – Every piece of our furniture is fully recyclable. ?? Zero Landfill Waste – No excess materials go to waste at our facility. Everything is repurposed into new furniture, ensuring a closed-loop manufacturing process. ? Energy Efficiency – Our machines naturally heat our facility, reducing energy consumption, and we’re transitioning to an electrically powered process for even greater efficiency. ??? Built to Last – Our molded furniture carries a lifetime limited warranty, minimizing replacements and reducing environmental impact over time. ?? End of Life Solutions – We work with customers to take back used products, grind them down, and recycle them into new pieces, keeping materials out of landfills. ?? Sustainable Sourcing – We prioritize local materials to cut emissions and reduce our carbon footprint. Even our packaging is FSC-certified, ensuring responsible sourcing. ? Healthier Indoor Spaces – Greenguard Gold certified for low emissions, our furniture helps improve indoor air quality and can contribute to LEED points in sustainable building projects. #Sustainability #Recycling #GreenguardGold #LEED

Project Spotlight: John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center The John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center in Houston is redefining how behavioral health facilities integrate outdoor space into patient care. Designed to prioritize safety, dignity, and healing, the facility features thoughtfully planned courtyards where patients can spend time outside in a secure, therapeutic environment. What stands out about this project is the emphasis on connection to nature - an often overlooked but critical component of behavioral health treatment. Access to outdoor areas can reduce stress, improve mood, and provide a sense of normalcy for patients navigating mental health challenges. It’s exciting to see more facilities recognizing the importance of purposeful outdoor environments as part of a holistic care model. #BehavioralHealth #HealingSpaces #OutdoorFurniture

What's the Difference Between Correctional & Behavioral Health Furniture? At first glance, correctional and behavioral health environments might seem to have similar furniture needs - both require durability, security, and safety. But the reality? Their challenges are surprisingly different. Corrections: The focus is on security, preventing contraband storage, and ensuring furniture can withstand extreme abuse. Behavioral Health: Safety is still critical, but the priority shifts to ligature resistance, fall prevention, and creating a therapeutic environment that promotes healing. The key is designing for function without compromising humanity. A correctional setting may favor ultra-secure, immovable fixtures, while behavioral health spaces need softened aesthetics that feel welcoming, not institutional. At Cortech, we understand that 'one size fits all' doesn’t work in high-risk environments. That’s why we design specialized solutions; from ultra-secure correctional furniture to ligature-resistant behavioral health designs, ensuring safety without sacrificing dignity. As the needs of these industries evolve, so does our approach. What’s one design challenge you think deserves more attention? Let’s start a conversation. #BehavioralHealth #Corrections #FacilityDesign #SafetyInnovation
