CorpsAfrica is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by a former Peace Corps Volunteer seeking to recognize and build on Peace Corps's enormous success by offering the same transformative experience to emerging leaders in Africa - giving them the chance to be a part of the solution for their own countries. CorpsAfrica applies the newest and best approaches to international development, including empowering local communities, promoting collaboration among NGOs and our development partners, monitoring and impact evaluation. We recruit men and women to move to high-poverty communities within their own countries for a year and initiate projects that fulfill key needs in their communities and whose impact and success can be carefully measured and monitored. CorpsAfrica started in Morocco and has expanded Senegal, Malawi, and Rwanda.

“Because of CorpsAfrica…” Volunteer Esther Gunsalu, serving in Nkhotakota, is empowering young girls in her community through the ‘Uplift a Girl Child’ initiative. By providing knowledge and skills in menstrual health and hygiene, Esther is helping these girls gain confidence and dignity during their menstrual cycles. Through health talks and practical sessions, they are learning to make reusable sanitary pads, an impactful step towards sustainable and accessible menstrual care. Because of CorpsAfrica, young girls are equipped to thrive with confidence and resilience. #IVD2024 #AfricanYouthShapingTheFutureofAfrica

Through CorpsAfrica/Ghana - Community of Gbabshei constructs 20 Biodigester Household Latrines to combat open defecation. Nimatu Abdul- Rahaman CorpsAfrica/Ghana volunteer was part of the activities to mark World Toilet Day. The goal was to provide sustainable sanitation solutions for the community while contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation. Had a good and productive meeting between CorpsAfrica and the State Department for Youth Affairs led by the Secretary for Youth Affairs, Mr Raymond Ochieng. We discussed how to harness the potential of Kenyan youth to bring about lasting change through community-led development approaches.
