Taking a stand on social issues is just one of many responsibilities for today's CEOs. But what are the criteria for determining when to take a stand? While this is new territory, says Hubert Joly, CEOs need to react quickly. Ask yourself: 1. Does this align with the company's purpose and values? How will it impact stakeholders? 2. If we were to engage, what is the process? Who is involved, and what are our internal and external resources? 3. Will speaking out about this issue feel authentic? In the words of Joly, "If you’re guided by purpose and values, then good things happen." Tune in to the full conversation with the Harvard Business Review to learn more.

As the upcoming election approaches, how should social impact professionals thoughtfully navigate the political landscape? When evaluating whether your company should speak out on key issues, consider: 1. Is this issue relevant to our business, and does it align with our values? 2. How will our employees, clients, or shareholders react? Will they support us taking a stand? 3. Do we have the track record or credibility to speak out? 4. Can we make a meaningful impact in this space? Thanks to our friends at @Rocket Social Impact for the insights.

It is only the first day of November, but the Corporate Volunteer Council of Atlanta (CVC) just visited The North Pole! Special thanks to Lauren Kalen and The Lumistella Company (creators of Elf on The Shelf ??) for hosting this morning’s CVC New Member Networking Breakfast and for providing an educational tour of your headquarters. CVC Membership Co-Chairs, Catherine Stranberg (Inspire Brands Foundation) and Lara Wagner (Regions Bank) partnered with CVC board members Matt Syrett (Jabian Consulting) and Brittany Church (Ryan), Board President Toccara Arnold Alam (KPMG US), and Executive Director Cheryl Kortemeier to share tips for joining and leveraging CVC membership. Catherine also treated the group to coffee and donuts from Dunkin' (an Inspire brand). Many thanks to everyone who participated. If you would like to learn more about how your company can get involved with the CVC, please take a look at www.cvcofatlanta.org
