??Navigating A Career Transition?? So often people focus on the hype of landing a new job or starting a new business. But how often do you read about people who struggle with their transition? I’m currently coaching a woman, let’s call her Carol, who is launching her own business. She has been with her previous employer virtually her entire career, but even though its an exciting time to go out on her own, its bittersweet. Why? Because of the transition. Which is part of the reason why she reached out to me for coaching. Leaving a job or organization can feel like a loss, even after a short period of time. You’ve met and bonded with people, acclimated to the culture, and now when you leave it can feel like a break-up. You may still remain friends with your colleagues, but the relationships will never be the same. It’s a loss. And in Carol’s case, her transition was tumultuous because of the long dysfunctional relationship with her superior. This added a whole other level of emotion to her transition. My point is, that its important to take the time to acknowledge and process that transition, whether ideal or not-so-ideal. When is a time you struggled with a career transition?
