San San Smith. Jodi Parker. Walter Bonner. George Roberts. Len Scruggs. These are some of the neighbors who initiated the beautification effort of Gwen Giles Park. Organized as the Catalpa, Maple Ave, Maple Place and Beach Block Unit, and supported by Alderwoman @Shameem Clark-Hubbard, residents drew up and submitted plans for their vision of the park in 2017, predating even the resident-led West End neighborhood planning process. Last night, @Great Rivers Greenway, who has continued to faithfully engage them, and @Cornerstone Stl recognized their work and heart. Thank you for leading — we’re excited to take your vision to the next step, together.

Shout out to the little Black girls raised in apartments. 2531 Regent Street. That is where she grew up in the Flatlands of Oakland, CA. Politics aside, tonight Democratic Presidential Candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, made the case for her presidency, but she also made the case for little girls and immigrants in apartments in Black neighborhoods. Where our children at @Cornerstonestl on Etzel Avenue would be dismissed, and often have been dismissed —here we see why you shouldn’t count folks out, and why you have to see people with God’s eyes. 6009 Etzel Avenue. 785 Tremont. 2531 Regent Street. “Never let anyone tell you who you are, you show them who you are.” - Vice President Kamala Harris #rent

Late post and shoutout to Gordon Carlson, our founder, who spearheaded the cleanup of an absolute gem of a green space in our neighborhood. He remembered when he did it the first time over 30 years ago and called us to restore what most couldn’t see. Community development isn’t all about removing things, it’s also about restoring them. Huge shoutout to West End Neighbors and St. Paul AME for your sponsorship and participation in Gordon’s initiative. Shoutout to @Steadfast City for showing up too. Stay tuned for another park cleanup opportunity.
