Trip #3 to Washington, DC this fall was for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program! Earlier this year I had the pleasure of having Humphrey Fellow, Aijun Yang, complete his Professional Affiliation at the U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC). In October, I joined a panel that shared insights with the current cohort on finding and achieving success with their Professional Affiliations. As an added bonus, I ran into a cooperative champion from Kenya, who is now a Fellow herself, Lydia Mutua!

I had the most fulfilling Experiential Learning experience with Master of Global Development colleagues taking the Community Organizing and Development course with Cornell Global Development department. I got a chance to share my personal experiences, insights about my country and above all the work that I do with Women in Farming and Entrepreneurship (WIFE) working with rural women farmers from Mashonaland West Province, together with local leadership and other stakeholders including civic society, private sector, the academia (Women's University in Africa, Blessing Magonziwa (PhD) and others). My presentation on the Situational Theory of Change for RodCamp Sustainable Integrated Agriculture project (Mapinga, Banket) triggered interesting conversations with colleagues representing different parts of the world (Africa, Asia, Europe and America), in the spirit of Global Development. A demonstration of: 1. The World as it IS 2. The World as it SHOULD be 3. What needs to be done 4. Underlying principles in the context of this particular project, all gave a clear idea of what the project is about, in a very summarized and simplified way, allowing for constructive dialogue. The impact and outcome of the discussion was positive recommendations on how to enhance the project guided by tried and tested Global Development experiences and standards. Hubert H. Our Humphrey Fellows have already been in the U.S. for three months and every day they are soaking in unique opportunities and experiences in leadership, service, innovation, and community. A new?policy brief from the?Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition demonstrates that the lack of a centralized source of information on Farmer Producer Organizations makes it tough to discern the network that is currently active in India.?To confront that challenge, TCI created a new database to identify and track FPO promotion and performance in the country, allowing for effective policymaking to support these organizations, helping agricultural stakeholders to institute better practices, and promoting effective FPOs to generate change in the agricultural sector. ??
