????Corio Generation hosted the 2025 Busan Offshore Wind Local Supply Chain Roadshow in South Korea this week, bringing together around 120 participants from local businesses, government agencies, industry partners, and financial institutions. The event provided a platform for dialogue on local supplier participation in offshore wind projects in Busan. Corio Generation is developing a portfolio of offshore wind projects in Busan and aims to supply clean energy to Busan Metropolitan City, a market with high electricity consumption and strong grid capacity. The roadshow is designed to engage local companies, fostering collaboration on Busan’s offshore wind projects, and, in the long term, expanding opportunities for domestic suppliers to enter the global market supply chain. “As this marks our second local supply chain event in Busan, we wanted to create a forum for meaningful discussions on practical collaboration with even more local companies. Seeing such a strong turnout reaffirms the momentum behind offshore wind in Busan,” says Woojin Choi, Head of South Korea at Corio Generation. “Corio’s offshore wind projects in Busan can serve as the foundation for Busan’s leap to become a global hub city. We will provide both material and moral support to maximise local content in the process and help them seize more offshore wind opportunities.” During the event, Corio explored collaboration opportunities for local suppliers in the development, construction and operation phases of an offshore wind project’s lifecycle. Attending companies welcomed the opportunity to network and gain insights into how they can engage in the growing offshore wind sector. With Busan’s strong industrial base and growing offshore wind expertise, collaboration is vital to building a sustainable and competitive supply chain. We look forward to continued partnerships that will contribute to Busan’s renewable energy future. ??? ???? We’re pleased to report on more positive news for West of Orkney Windfarm, the 2 GW project we are developing off the north coast of Scotland with our partners TotalEnergies and RIDG. At a meeting held today (12 March 2025), the Highland Council gave the green light to the project after confirming that they had no objections to the project’s offshore planning submission that is currently under consideration by Scottish Government. This follows the Highland Council’s approval of the West of Orkney Windfarm’s onshore planning submission in June of last year. Commenting on the decision, Corio’s Head of Europe Sharn Ward says: “From being the first offshore wind project to submit for consent under the ScotWind programme, to supporting local education and cultural initiatives and securing approval from key stakeholders such as The Highland Council, we are encouraged by the progress the project continues to make. “As a major renewable energy development, West of Orkney Windfarm will make a valuable contribution to the UK’s ability to power itself with greener, renewable and more secure sources of energy.” West of Orkney Windfarm aims to be operational by 2030, and would produce enough clean electricity to meet the needs of approximately two million homes. The project has already supported a number of initiatives in the north of Scotland, including a £1 million research and development programme being led by EMEC: European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, a £900,000 education initiative led by UHI, and a £125,000 Fit 4 Renewables scheme led by Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. ???? Corio Generation welcomes the enactment of South Korea’s Offshore Wind Special Act. The landmark legislation is designed to accelerate offshore wind development by streamlining permitting and consenting processes. This is expected to drive the expansion of offshore wind projects and strengthen related industries across the country. “We appreciate the government’s long-term commitment to offshore wind development and coordinating diverse stakeholder interests," says Woojin Choi, Head of South Korea at Corio Generation. "The Offshore Wind Special Act is a significant milestone that will ensure the orderly and efficient expansion of offshore wind power, playing a crucial role in South Korea’s decarbonisation journey.” The new Act enables the government to expand offshore wind power by identifying potential offshore wind sites and conducting competitive tenders to select developers responsible for finalising development, construction and operation. Additionally, it consolidates 29 permitting and consenting procedures into a single administrative office, addressing long-standing concerns among developers and investors regarding complex regulatory processes previously hindering project development in South Korea. Corio Generation is developing offshore wind projects in Busan, Ulsan, and South Jeolla Province in collaboration with its partners, local companies and public power generation corporations. With the Act now in place, Corio is well-positioned to accelerate its existing projects and proactively participate in new government-led initiatives.
