The Arizona State University Barrett and O’Connor Center serves as a role model for adaptive reuse and historic preservation methods that necessitate innovative solutions. For example, the 8th floor addition with outdoor terrace serves as a flexible event and conference space. It is stepped back from the historic fa?ade, which was a requirement of the DC Historic Preservation Review Board to distinguish the modern addition from the original building. “Our primary focus for Mozzeria was to facilitate a Deaf-friendly space plan and then we layered on the proper lighting levels and backdrop for easy communication,” explains CORE architecture + design Partner Allison Cooke, IIDA, LEED AP. “Members of the client team were instrumental in providing their perspective on how Deaf people work and experience restaurant spaces, raising our awareness of those design factors. For example, the simple and clean finish palette intentionally minimizes visual distraction in the space while beautifully enhancing the Mozzeria brand.” Explore the project:?https://lnkd.in/dmfw9vR Credit: Ron Ngiam #restaurantdesign?#hospitalitydesign?#restaurantconcept #designprocess

The luxurious lobby at 915 Meeting Street invites tenants and guests to linger, rather than simply pass through. Using arcing ceiling forms, the design unifies the two sides of the lobby so that it feels like a living room—with the furnishings and artwork emphasizing warmth and texture at a relatable scale.
