Throwing it back to the restoration of the historic Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library. The design places the existing library at center stage, respecting its strong architectural character and historic nature without compromising its symmetry or balance. Linked in the rear to the existing building by a glass, skylit atrium is a terra cotta paneled wing. The addition allows the DC Public Library’s collection to be completely housed in the renovated historic building while moving all services, staff offices, and utility spaces into its new wing. Complete with lush botanicals and exotic wallcoverings, the ascent to Buena Vida’s rooftop was crafted with cascading greenery and dark, moody hues to render an experience akin to climbing a tree in the jungle of Tulum, Mexico. “The design awakens the guest’s sense of exploration,” says Allison Cooke, IIDA, LEED AP, Partner. CORE delivered the innovative fa?ade design for the DC Correctional Treatment Facility Annex in partnership with CGL Companies, the DC Department of Corrections, and the DC Department of General Services. Aimed at resetting the prominence of the jail within its neighborhood, the design aspires to transform the traditional appearance of a correctional facility into a welcoming, secure, and contextually integrated building that aligns with the vision of the Hill East Master Plan. The concept received approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. Explore the project:?https://lnkd.in/e4WH7sjS Rendering: Neoscape

“Our goal was to create an environment where members would immediately feel a sense of belonging to the University of Maryland. We thoughtfully blended luxurious elements with subtle nods to the school’s heritage, resulting in a space that has a distinctly different aesthetic from the arena, and includes some meaningful symbolism.” -Allison Cooke, IIDA, LEED AP, Partner Explore the project: https://lnkd.in/dEQ_8jKa Credit: Ron Ngiam #privateclubdesign #hospitalitydesign #bardesign

An exercise in restraint and urban archeology, Comet Ping Pong remains a marvel of adaptive reuse practices. Instead of demolishing and replacing the interiors, the design team chose to embrace the existing structure and architectural elements by researching how much they could excavate from the gritty, urban site to deliver a rugged, playful, and creative pizza space. Thoughtful and intelligent design, such as reskinning of the fa?ade and providing green roof systems throughout, helped revitalize the existing architecture of 2501 M, maximize the site’s potential, and ultimately benefit the urban landscape and community by delivering a building well positioned for years to come.
