We are pleased to present our short movie, Powering Cordova - Part 1 - Humpback Creek, created with the talented folks at Seed Media. While 75% of our power was generated by hydropower in 2023, our hydro projects are fairly inaccessible and not very visible. We created this movie to better show our members where their power is being made and to highlight the importance of hydro to the cooperative. The movie was debuted at our Annual Meeting last night, where over 15% of our membership, or approximately 300 people, showed up in person. We look forward to sharing Part 2 later this year.

For small, remote towns like Cordova, Alaska, having a resilient electric grid is key—especially when demand spikes during fishing season. Additions to NREL’s Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems (ARIES) research platform are helping communities like Cordova map out ways to meet that fluctuating demand with clean energy sources like hydropower, battery storage, or even new marine energy technologies. We are thrilled to share Part 2 of our Powering Cordova film series, showcasing our Power Creek project, which provides most Cordova's hydropower. Power Creek is located close to Cordova, but most of the community has not seen it. Once again, the CEC Board selected four local applicants to award $5,000 through the CoBank Sharing Success Program. The funding for this program is split 50/50 between CEC and CoBank and this is the 11th year in a row that CEC has participated. Congratulations to the Mavis Island Project, Cordova 2x2 Cancer Walk, Prince William Sound Science Center, and the Cordova Covered Spaces Project!?
