Corboy & Demetrio Partner Conrad Nowak was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Lawyers' Assistance Program. Conrad is a renowned advocate supporting mental health, suicide awareness, and suicide prevention in the legal and veteran communities. He’s authored articles that were published by LAP and has spoken on mental health issues at LAP events. In 2022, he received LAP’s Carl H. Rolewick Award, which is given annually to an attorney who has contributed significantly to the goals and mission of the LAP. Conrad joins C&D Partner Francis Patrick Murphy, a former LAP President, on the board. In Corboy & Demetrio’s new podcast, Masters of Trial Law, prominent aviation attorney Thomas Demetrio discusses his firm’s two record-setting settlements for the wrongful death of an individual killed in a commercial plane crash. The first settlement was $25 million for the family of a passenger on United Airlines #232, which crashed on July 19, 1989, during an attempted emergency landing in Sioux City, Iowa, after the plane’s hydraulic system failed. The second was $25.25 million for the family of a businessman who died in the crash of USAir #427. Episode 1 is hosted by William T. Corboy & Demetrio Partner Michelle Kohut spoke at the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’s Damages Seminar this morning,and after that, she served as a Panelist at Loyola University Chicago School of Law’s The Women in the Law Conference, which promotes, empowers, and amplifies the influence of women in the legal field.

Twenty-seven years ago, a stretch of Washington Street was renamed “Corboy Way” to recognize the many contributions made by Corboy & Demetrio Co-founder Philip H. Corboy.

Congratulations to Corboy & Demetrio Managing Partner Ken Lumb who was selected to Illinois Super Lawyers for a 10th year. Ken was recognized in the area of medical malpractice for the legal directory’s 2025 edition, and he is one of eight firm partners to receive the honor.

Congratulations to Corboy & Demetrio Associate Attorney Tom Demetrio who was selected to the 2025 edition of Illinois Rising Stars by Super Lawyers. The honor is limited to only 2.5 percent of eligible attorneys in the state.
