The PKD-Free Alliance (PKD-Free) is pleased to announce the appointment of Natasha Rogina as Chief Spokesmom. This announcement comes during March’s National Kidney Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about kidney health and diseases. Natasha is the proud mother to a PKD-free child, Juliana, and is a vocal advocate for the PKD-Free Alliance and its mission. Natasha knows the struggles that PKD impacted families face; her mother has PKD, which eventually required her to receive a kidney transplant. PKD-Free Alliance focuses on raising awareness about proven approaches to prevent Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) from being passed down in families. PKD-Free provides qualified, PKD-impacted families with resources, grants and discounts from top fertility centers across the country for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-M) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatments to prevent PKD from being passed down to future generations. https://lnkd.in/e6dyJBEu #endpkd #worldkidneyday #Nationalkidneymonth #pkd #pkdwarrior #pkdfree #ivf #pgtm #kidney #kidneydiseaseawareness #polycystickidneydisease #kidneystrong #kidneydisease #chronickidneydisease #kidney #chronickidneydisease #kidneyhealth

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Every year more than 2.8 million people in the United States sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recovery from a brain injury caused by an accident or stroke can take months or even years. With a certified multidisciplinary team, recovery can be expedited and patients can return to their lives and what they love to do. Patients and families need to know the right questions to ask to get the care they need. When firefighter Joseph McGuire came into North Westchester Restorative Therapy and Nursing, he required assistance with all activities of daily living and was unable to walk. Now he is completing activities of daily living with increased independence and can walk and navigate a couple of steps with the assistance of one person. He has made great progress. Mr. McGuire was recently treated to a surprise “clap out” as he was discharged from North Westchester Restorative Therapy & Nursing Center. McGuire is a former chief and has served as a firefighter for decades. He will be joined by his family and members from the Verplank and Putnam Valley Fire Departments who will be escorting him out of the facility. A fire department truck and numerous firefighters participated in the clap out. North Westchester is the only CARF-certified sub-acute facility in Westchester County. The team at the facility provides a higher level of care for individuals suffering from traumatic brain injuries. Since being certified, the facility has celebrated many success stories, showing that there is hope and with quality care patients can return to their lives. https://lnkd.in/eQ7kkWzn

Paws of War recently sent two volunteers and disaster relief experts, Angelique Williams (US Navy Veteran) and Nikki Dawson, to California where they are leading efforts in rescuing and providing care to animals in the areas affected by the LA wildfires. Paws of War is encouraging people to support their efforts to purchase and collect these needed oxygen masks, materials to build feeding stations and funds to help cover the cost of transporting dogs and cats from shelters to New York. These dogs and cats were in shelters before the fires and are being taken to free up space for new animals displaced by the fires and potentially to hold them until they can be reunited with their families or adopted. Transport vehicles are being obtained and trained animal transport drivers are being hired. On Wednesday, they were able to rescue and reunite a cat, Ziggy, with her owner. The cat had been abandoned for over a week with no food or water and was presumed dead. The team is bringing animal oxygen mask kits directly to LA Fire Department units. Many of these fire departments do not have these special oxygen masks that are needed to help save or revive pets that have been overcome by smoke. Many animals have perished because of lack the lack of oxygen masks. Nikki and Angelique are also building and installing temporary feeding stations for displaced pets and animals. This is a similar approach they have used in Ukraine over the past two years.
