Paws of War recently sent two volunteers and disaster relief experts, Angelique Williams (US Navy Veteran) and Nikki Dawson, to California where they are leading efforts in rescuing and providing care to animals in the areas affected by the LA wildfires. Paws of War is encouraging people to support their efforts to purchase and collect these needed oxygen masks, materials to build feeding stations and funds to help cover the cost of transporting dogs and cats from shelters to New York. These dogs and cats were in shelters before the fires and are being taken to free up space for new animals displaced by the fires and potentially to hold them until they can be reunited with their families or adopted. Transport vehicles are being obtained and trained animal transport drivers are being hired. On Wednesday, they were able to rescue and reunite a cat, Ziggy, with her owner. The cat had been abandoned for over a week with no food or water and was presumed dead. The team is bringing animal oxygen mask kits directly to LA Fire Department units. Many of these fire departments do not have these special oxygen masks that are needed to help save or revive pets that have been overcome by smoke. Many animals have perished because of lack the lack of oxygen masks. Nikki and Angelique are also building and installing temporary feeding stations for displaced pets and animals. This is a similar approach they have used in Ukraine over the past two years. A compassionate team of local contractors and roofing material manufacturers recently announced the donation of a comprehensive roofing and home repair project to the Ceglio family of Commack, who are currently navigating significant health and financial challenges. Led by Gina Farese of Marcor Construction, the collaborative effort includes Owens Corning, Beacon Building Supply, MGM Construction Services and Long Island Carting. Construction on the home was recently completed in time for the holidays. The donation comes at a critical time for the Ceglio family. The mother, Cindy, is battling breast cancer for the second time and is about to undergo major surgery while her son, Stephen, faces multiple complex medical conditions including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy and a rare gene mutation. Stephen also recently underwent surgery and Cindy, who typically provides 24-hour care for her son, will be unable to do so during her recovery and treatment. The father, Peter, will be taking a leave from work to care for both Cindy and Steven. The project, valued at approximately $25,000, addresses crucial home restorations, including roofing and gutter repairs and the installation of a mud room, which are essential to protecting the family’s home from potential weather-related damage. https://lnkd.in/eagpN-hM https://lnkd.in/ekgY-c68
