As we’ve been evolving since our name change to Coralus, we’ve been deepening our understanding of what it means to be in this collective. ?? Everything that was once oriented to the individual needs to be shifted to being about the collective. Anything that separates us needs a reset to bring us together. So we are thrilled to introduce a new look and feel to get us started. This September we are launching more opportunities to meet in small groups for relationship building, finding the others, and supporting each others’ dreams as we expand to open up to the world. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be sharing more details about our new approach and inviting you to co-create with us. ABOUT MELANIE Dr. Melanie Rieback is the CEO/Co-founder of Radically Open Security, the world’s first non-profit computer security consultancy company. She is also a former Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Amsterdam (VU) who performed RFID security research (RFID Virus and RFID Guardian), that attracted worldwide press coverage and won several awards (Mediakomeet, ISOC Award, NWO I/O award, IEEE Percom Best Paper, USENIX Lisa Best Paper). Melanie worked as a Senior Engineering Manager on XenClient at Citrix, where she led their Vancouver office. She was also the head researcher in the CSIRT at ING Bank, where she spearheaded their Analysis Lab and the ING Core Threat Intelligence Project. For fun, she co-founded the Dutch Girl Geek Dinner in 2008. Melanie was named 2010 ICT Professional of the Year (Finalist) by WomeninIT, one of the 400 most successful women in the Netherlands by Viva Magazine (Viva400) in 2010 and 2017, one of the fifty most inspiring women in tech (Inspiring Fifty Netherlands) in 2016, 2017, and 2019. She was also called the Most Innovative IT Leader by CIO Magazine NL (TIM Award) in 2017 and one of the 9 Most Innovative Women in the European Union (EU Women Innovators Prize) in 2019. Her company, Radically Open Security, was named the 50th Most Innovative SME by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (MKB Innovative Top 100) in 2016. Flashback to 6 months ago: I embarked on a program that has become a significant chapter in my entrepreneurial journey. The Foodpreneur Lab X Coralus program, designed by Lorraine Telesford from Foodpreneur Lab , an organization founded by Janice Bartley , alongside the dynamic team of Lorraine Telesford Juliet 'Kego Ume-Onyido, MBA , and Janice Bartley was created to meet us at different stages of our businesses. Lorraine’s unique approach helped us navigate unfamiliar spaces and grow beyond our limits. This program didn’t just teach us to think outside the box—it built a community, a family. As graduates of the first-ever cohort, I know this program must continue. It’s essential for our community, and the success we've experienced is just the beginning. Our last cohort day was filled with connection, laughter, and shared meals from ventures within our group. By the end, it wasn’t just about becoming ventures—it was about supporting one another. We have access to an "ask and give" platform to uplift each other, with a perfect balance of work and play. As I submit my application for the Coralus Venture, ahead of the October 6th deadline, I reflect on our final day at the iconic Coralus Home in Toronto, where ideas, tears, and support flowed freely. It was a magical space, made even more special by the presence of Vicki Saunders, her husband, and Madeleine Shaw Shaw, who gifted us her inspiring book, “The Greater Good” Thank you to everyone who made this journey unforgettable. Here’s to the next chapter!
