Global leaders from state and non-state sectors convened at a high-level roundtable, organised by the COP29 Presidency in partnership with IUCN and UN Environment Programme, to advance biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration. The event shed light on innovative strategies and partnerships driving investment and action to achieve the 2030 climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development goals. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan

Today COP29 Presidency and Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan in partnership with UN Environment Programme, UNECE Sustainable Energy, World Meteorological Organization, officially launched the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action, a platform that builds collaboration between COPs on water and its interplay with #climatechange, biodiversity loss, pollution and desertification, ensuring this important topic stays on the climate agenda. The COP29 Presidency also launched the COP29 Declaration on Water for Climate Action, which commits to improving international cooperation on water basin management. This was endorsed by over 40 countries, along with other non-state actors including WWF, Water, SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute and the Islamic Development Bank. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan

Today's High Level Event on Gender in Transparency highlighted the importance and benefits of integrating gender considerations into the transparency framework. Opened by both #COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and UN Climate Change Executive Secretary, Mr. Simon Stiell, the event was moderated by Prof. Rangita de Silva de Alwis, with insights from Dr. Jemimah Njuki, Ms. Bahar Muradova, Mr. Marcos Athias Neto, Mr. Enrique Ochoa, H.E. Heydar Aliyev International Airport and ACI EUROPE hosted an event highlighting the global airport industry’s efforts toward decarbonization.?The airport was honored with the ACA Level 2 "Reduction" certificate for its significant achievements in reducing carbon emissions. Emission Reductions: 2022: 41,579 tons CO2 2023: 38,398 tons CO2 8% reduction compared to 2022! Efficiency Measures: 260 kWh of electricity saved. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan

Building on the momentum of the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action, today’s High-level Roundtable on Water for Climate explored methods to catalyse action for effective water management and outlined policy frameworks to support global climate change mitigation efforts. Organised in partnership with UN-Water and coordinated by UNECE Sustainable Energy, UN Environment Programme, and World Meteorological Organization, the roundtable delved into the exchanges proposed by the Baku Dialogue to drive progress on water and climate resilience. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan
