Today, we're excited to make a change, infusing our content with the vibrant culture and storied history of Haiti. Our aim is to not only educate, entertain, and inspire our audience but also to contribute to a brighter future, both for Haiti and the global community. What better occasion to kickstart this journey than by commemorating Haitian Flag Day on May 18th? It wouldn't be cool if we failed to share a little piece of history behind Flag Day. During the Arcahaie Congress in May 18, 1803, leader of the Haitian Revolution, Jean-Jacques Dessalines boldly removed the white band from the French flag, symbolizing the alliance of blacks and mulattos in their relentless pursuit of freedom. This courageous act birthed the very first Haitian flag. Dessalines ordered the inscription, “Liberté ou la mort” meaning “Freedom or death." He later entrusted Catherine Flon, a relative of his with the task of stitching together the blue and red bands of fabric to craft this symbol of liberation. Today, the flag proudly boasts two horizontal bands of blue and red, adorned with a white rectangular panel showcasing the emblem of Haiti. This emblem depicts a powerful array of weapons atop a green hill, crowned by the Cap of Liberty. At its center stands the resilient symbol of the royal palm, representing Haiti's hard-won independence.
