I had the incredible privilege of bringing together a remarkable group of people: Alex Boyé ?????? Megan Cook, Ed.D. and Anna Stubblefield. Witnessing the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools host their annual employee convocation was a moment of sheer joy and pride. This year, they partnered with the Cook Center for Human Connection and it was an honor to see Alex step up as the keynote speaker.
The event was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of community, resilience, and the power of human connection. The energy in the room was palpable, and I felt a profound sense of gratitude for being part of such an inspiring and transformative experience.
Alex's simple declaration, "I am 10," reverberated through me with unexpected intensity. It was as if, in those three words, Alex encapsulated the essence of our shared human experience. We’ve all encountered those dark times when self-doubt seeps in, making us feel less than perfect, less valuable. Whether it’s a failure at work, a personal setback, or an unkind word from someone we care about, these moments can chip away at our self-worth. Yet, Alex’s words serve as a powerful reminder that our intrinsic value is immutable. No matter the hardships we face, no matter how battered we feel, we remain whole, worthy, and complete. We remain a 10.
This realization brings me to another equally profound insight: the significance of our mental diet. Just as our bodies reflect the nourishment they receive, so too do our minds mirror the thoughts we feed them. What are we allowing to take root in our consciousness? Are our thoughts nurturing and uplifting, or are they corrosive and self-defeating? Are we our own biggest cheerleaders, encouraging ourselves with compassion and kindness, or do we become our harshest critics, undermining our self-esteem?
In a world that often emphasizes external achievements and appearances, Alex’s message and the importance of our mental diet call us back to a fundamental truth: our true worth comes from within. By embracing this perspective, we can navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace, always remembering that we are, and always will be, a perfect 10.
