Vulnerable women in Athens, Greece, are finding help and community thanks to Convoy's partners who are dedicated to meeting their needs. ?? Humanitarian Initiative Bridges, a Convoy of Hope partner program, exists to meet the needs of those who fled their home countries due to unrest, war, and persecution. Bridges not only helps with language learning, important documents, and health education, but also provides?one-on-one empowerment sessions and access to?social workers to help for the long haul. We're grateful to partner with groups who embody what our Women's Empowerment program aims to do: show women their value so they can thrive. Aster has had to keep a fighting spirit to find her success. She worked tirelessly to provide for her two children and make ends meet, but even then, it wasn't enough to support her family. When Aster joined Convoy of Hope's Women's Empowerment program in Ethiopia, she learned business and life skills that helped her hard work pay off. Conducting marketing assessments led her to start her own business selling spices. "With a fighting spirit and a strong commitment to my dreams, I refused to give up on my business easily," she said. Transformation starts with the desire for change. ?? Amonyi, a 38-year-old single mom in South Sudan, was determined to pay school fees, provide food for her kids, and cover medical bills. All she needed was the right support.?? When Amonyi joined Convoy's Women's Empowerment group in her community, the program provided her with the opportunity to borrow funds from the group to start her business.?? With hard work and determination, she is now achieving her goals by running a successful business selling green peppers, onions, tomatoes, fish, soap, and even sugar at the local market — and was able to pay back what she borrowed from the group in full.?? "I want to see my children highly educated and holding big titles like doctors, teachers, nurses, agriculture specialists, and engineers to save the nation," she said.?? Natalia, head of Oleksandrivka village in southern Ukraine, remembers the 4:30 a.m. call that alerted her to the start of the war. She also remembers when Convoy of Hope came in to help. "The support is still present to this day," she said. "You realize that there are people next to you who are ready to help you." Update from Sudan ?????? In the nearly two years since the fight between the Sudanese Armed Forces and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began, 14.6 million people have been forced to flee their homes because of the conflict, often with just the clothes on their backs. Over half of the population is in need of humanitarian support as many families don't have access to food or clean water. Convoy of Hope is working with local partners, recently distributing over 3 million meals to refugees in southern Sudan and northern South Sudan. ?? Convoy is also working on repairing water wells, sourcing feeding programs, and providing mosquito nets to prevent illness. Help and hope are being delivered across the Appalachian region, with timely help from committed local partners. One of Convoy's partners in Richlands, Virginia, partnered with the police department to deliver water, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products to severely impacted areas. In addition, Convoy is serving residents in McDowell County, West Virginia — historically known as one of the most economically challenged parts of the United States.
