In 1994, Dr. Lori Arviso Alvord made history as the first Navajo woman to become board certified in surgery. But when she began work on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico, she found “although I was a good surgeon, I was not always a good healer.” Today, Dr. Alvord’s care combines modern medicine and traditional Navajo healing. When he’s outside his office hours at Conviva Central Corpus, Dr. Alex McColloster can be found nose-deep in a new book or experimenting in the kitchen to create a new recipe for his family. Within his practice, Dr. McColloster is a fellowship-trained, board-certified geriatrics specialist. He earned his medical degree from the University of North Texas Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and has an affinity for helping older adults maintain their quality of life.
