How ridiculous is this. The legal services board receives the highest amount of claim is guess which practice area? You guessed it - conveyancing. Its really not much of a guess to be fair. With lots of cheap conveyancers with overseas teams, or teams working over capacity in a churn and burn environment, theres bound to be costly errors or a communication breakdown that leads to consumer claims. The nature of the work is high risk too. We deal with tight timeframes daily and one small oversight can yield a disastrous outcome for the client. Our expertise ensures we are always on the ball to avoid mishaps and ensure the client is protected at all times. Whats rediculous though is the fact that, despite how much attention to detail and risk comes with conveyancing (not to mention how high our insurace premiums are) our profession charges so cheaply in comparison to other practice areas. Why do people devalue themselves and our industry despite how time sensitive and risky transactions can be? How did this culture of low-cost conveyancing start and spiral out of control? And why arent these el cheapo bottom-of-the-barrell conveyancing businesses, who dont have proper systems to scale and put clients at risk with dodgy erroneous work, investigated by governing bodies? Its time to introduce a royal commission (or like investigation) to investigate into dodgy, cheap conveyancing companies so they can be weeded out once and for all. There should also be a scale of costs for conveyancing fees, so that the industry charges consistantly based on the experience level of a conveyancer. Property professionals should be made aware of a scale of costs so they can manage their clients expectations appropriately about conveyancing fees. And kickbacks should be made illegal in every single state of Australia. Screw you to every propertly professional whose only interest is to work with conveyancers based on the how much profit they can cough up and pass on. Makes me sick! Whats your thoughts on the matter? How can we improve the conveyancing industry to ensure we price correctly and only quality practitioners are running the show?
