On the anniversary of an interview conducted 46 years ago and in celebration of nearly 80 years of business, we are sharing a link to the conversation transcript with our founder Fred Converse back in November of 1978.?For those of you in the geotechnical field, you may appreciate that he was a pioneer in geotechnical engineering.?This interview, among other things, talks about the emerging soil foundation engineering field, and some early work done with the Bechtel Brothers, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Lockheed Aircraft, Kaiser Steel and Permanente Aluminum, the Navy Shipyards on Terminal Island, working with Robert V LaBarre (another pioneer), and of course, Caltech. Converse was established in 1946 by Professor Frederick J. Converse in Pasadena, California to provide the construction industry with geotechnical and environmental services. We now have nine offices and over 150 employees throughout the United States. Our offices are located in California (Monrovia, Redlands, Rancho Cucamonga, Costa Mesa,Palm Desert, and Palmdale), Nevada (Las Vegas, Reno, and Elko), Pennsylvania (State College) and New Jersey (Morristown). Converse is a professional services firm specializing in the fields of geotechnical engineering, geology, environmental sciences, groundwater sciences, GIS and materials testing and inspection. We have 75 years of experience providing these services during entire design and construction phases, as well as acquisition and development stages, and through closure of the remediation process. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Converse has continued to provide our services to our clients while protecting the health of our valued employees and their families. All offices support employees working from home while leaving our offices open for essential services, and for employees who need access to special equipment or just need a productive environment to work in. All necessary precautions are being taken to make sure all employees, both in the field and office, are safe. Sanitizing stations were installed throughout the buildings and face coverings are worn while in the offices. Posters reminding our employees to practice social distancing and to frequently wash their hands are found throughout our buildings. Because we are an essential service, we have been able to continue serving our clients. Our history, combined with our current experience, has made Converse the preferred choice for our clients. We hope to continue to be yours.

We have been hard @ it lately out of town! I spent 10yrs of my life traveling as a speciality environmental contractor and sometimes you have to go back to you’re roots. I’d like to give a huge shout out to Tracy Johnston and his team @ Converse Consultants for their help with this project. We were awarded a 203 acre asbestos removal project for Mineral County and everyone here in Hawthorne has been nothing but amazing to work with. I’d like to give thanks to all our vendors and suppliers who have helped us with the coordination of this project. If you are in need of a heavy civil contractor who isn’t afraid to work remotely please feel free to give us a call.
