https://lnkd.in/gDzm_BaJ NOAA predicts above-normal 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. This is the initial outlook and is updated in early August prior to the peak of the Atlantic season. It's also important to note that this is for seasonal activity. It doesn't mean the number of landfalls and it only takes one bad storm to cause significant damage. Preparedness shouldn't be just about hurricane season or flu season or winter storm season. Preparedness is about the little things that people should think of doing to be prepared for whatever the next emergency is. This could be a power outage due to power lines down from an accident or a flat tire in your driveway before you leave for work or the myriad of other regular occurrences that aren't giant hurricanes swirling up the eastern coastline. Do you have a plan for your family? Medications? Pets? Do you have contact information for key people or services somewhere other than in your phone? Could you handle being out of power for a day? 3 days? Preparing for the smaller events will help you be better prepared for the bigger ones. There are a lot of resources available with tools, ideas, and solutions to increase your personal resilience during an emergency. Preparedness starts with individual preparedness.

OSHA's new proposed rule for Emergency Responders is out and open for comments. There are many proposed changes that will have impacts to both volunteer and career departments. For the first time, they've included a necessary Mental Health component. The proposed rule states that the resources provided shall include components such as diagnostic assessment, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referral services. As with any proposed rule, the details matter. It's worth the read for those impacted by the proposed rules and glad to see it looks to address this much needed gap.
