?? Project Update from Convergence Controls! ?? We want to share insights into one of our recent projects involving Logix v36 and the newer 5069-L10ER controllers from the 5580 generation. As many of you know, in July 2021, Rockwell released the Echo Emulator software paired with FTLinx to replace Logix Emulator paired with RSLinx. Given the large number of PLC / VFD panels we design and adherence to customer standards to continue to use the actively supported L7x hardware, we haven’t had to worry much about the Echo software until recently. Checkout the images: Programs themselves look different but have similar form and function. This shift highlights that while not cutting-edge, it’s a relevant and necessary step forward for many teams modernizing their processes. After you change the connection method in Studio5000, there aren’t many functional differences in Echo over the earlier Logix Emulator software. One notable improvement is that you can finally emulate a CompactLogix program without having to convert it to ControlLogix and lose your I/O card configuration. For those less familiar: Echo Emulate functions as a virtual PLC, allowing you to download and test your logic without physical hardware. It is even possible link HMI screens to it and perform comprehensive testing of both the PLC and HMI as if you had the physical hardware. While not everyone opts to test their logic—and some prefer physical hardware for this—emulation remains a key tool for enhancing reliability and efficiency in system development.
