This week, CCTA welcomed a delegation from the Czech Republic to Contra Costa County about how we’re preparing for the future of transportation. Thank you to Minister of Transport Martin Kupka and the entire Czech team for visiting GoMentum Station. We are honored to receive the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG) Eureka Award for our PRESTO autonomous vehicle pilot program, which is transforming transportation in Contra Costa County communities of Martinez, Bishop Ranch in San Ramon, and the Rossmoor senior center in Walnut Creek. This award recognizes innovation in regional mobility, and we’re proud to be leading the way in making autonomous vehicle (AV) technology work for people: improving access, expanding mobility options, and creating new job opportunities. A special thank you to our partners, Beep, Inc. and May Mobility, for bringing their expertise to these innovative projects. And thanks to Commissioner Christine Kelley, who represented CCTA at the CALCOG Regional Leadership Forum earlier this month — we appreciate your leadership and support! This is just the beginning. CCTA is committed to expanding AVs throughout the region and continuing to make Contra Costa County a leader in next-generation transportation.

The idea is to try new business models for building transit, said Tim Haile. “With bus rapid transit or light rail, it’s just the transit element. Here, we’re looking how to leverage the entire network.” Transit-oriented development, advertising in vehicles and other possibilities could offer new ways of funding that don’t depend on farebox revenue or public funding.
