The following is about one of our hospice patients, Anna. Anna just recently celebrated her 106th birthday, and we wanted to share with the world a little about her as told to us by her son Bob. Anna was born Anna Spanier on August 6, 1918, in Berring County, Michigan (Benton Harbor). She moved between Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, Michigan, where she graduated from high school in 1937. She moved to Chicago after graduating and got a job at the Mars candy company until war broke out. She then took a job at the aircraft factory as an air box inspector for the government. After the war, she moved back to St. Joseph, Michigan, and married her sister's brother-in-law, Hugo Renner, on March 30th, 1946. She had two children; Jimmy Lee, born in 1946, and Robert L. born in 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to Cleveland with her family, where her husband got a job after the war. Anna took a job at Midwest Metalic Company in 1958 and retired after 34 years on the job as a welder. She loved to bake and was excellent at it. Anna would say that her biggest accomplishment in her life was her children. After retirement, she donated her time to her church's pyrohy-making group at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she volunteered until she couldn’t drive anymore. Anna was born during the flu pandemic of 1918 lived through the pandemic of 2019, and just recently celebrated her 106th birthday. In the words of her son Bob, “She is like the energizer bunny. She keeps on going.”

Welcome to Continuum Care Hospice. Hospice is not a place. It is there when you need it, where you need it- whether it is a private residence, nursing facility or assisted living residence. The goal of the hospice is to provide palliative care that addresses the physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of service for the terminally ill as an integrated whole. Continuum Care Hospice is guided by the principles of responsive care, teamwork, leadership, and stewardship. Care to the patient and caregivers will enable those served to experience death with grace and dignity. In addition to helping ease pain and other symptoms, your professional hospice team: -Works with you, your family and your physician to provide the medical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual care you need, when and where you need it. Our nurses, pastoral (spiritual) counselors, social workers, hospice aides, trained volunteers, bereavement experts and others stand ready to help 24/7. -Allows you and your family to make your own decisions, respecting your beliefs and goals. -Helps you and your loved ones through the grief process. -Provides bereavement services. Our hospice care focuses on maintaining quality of life. That means helping you or your loved one live in comfort and dignity at home or in a home-like facility close to family and friends. Volunteer Spotlight Continuum Care Hospice would like to take a moment to put a spotlight on one of our amazing volunteers, Miranda! Miranda started volunteering for us in 2021 while completing her undergraduate degree here in the Cleveland area. At the time Miranda started volunteering, she was only able to do virtual visits due to Covid. She stayed with us that whole time, gladly doing virtual visits with our patients. Eventually, she was able to start seeing patients in person and she has done a fantastic job! Miranda has been a wonderful asset to our hospice. As her time in Cleveland comes to an end and she prepares to move to medical school, we know that she will continue to make a difference in the world and will be a great physician! Thank you, Miranda! If you are interested in volunteering for hospice, please contact our office at 216-898-8444 or visit our website at https://lnkd.in/g_4vMpB9
