CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Demolition of the current Wisconsin Historical Museum is underway to make room for the new Wisconsin History Center, a dynamic cultural hub that will transcend the traditional museum experience. In collaboration with SmithGroup, the Wisconsin History Center will feature state-of-the-art digital technology to serve and engage the public both in-person and virtually, host a variety of programming, and be the flagship “front door” of the Wisconsin Historical Society, helping connect the public to the vast array of services, resources and educational opportunities it offers. Atanas Iankov, who originally hails from Bulgaria, is a recent graduate from the UWM's School of Architecture & Urban Planning and Northcentral Technical College. His experience as an Architectural Intern, Designer, and Draftsman has made him an asset to the team at Continuum. His curiosity and dedication to learn as much as he can has allowed him to gain valuable experience on projects like Historic Patterson Place, a renovation of the former Carleton Elementary School into 30 1- and 2-bedroom apartments and 18 townhomes in Old North Milwaukee. Continuum Architects + Planners is thrilled to announce its partnership with AECOM and NORR on the multi-year effort to plan for the future of the Milwaukee County Courthouse Complex, including the Historic Courthouse, Criminal Justice Facility, and Public Safety Building. The county is facing a now-critical need to re-envision and invest in justice and safety through the construction of a new building to replace the crumbling Public Safety Building and the renovation of other integrated facilities. Zachary Pate is a native Wisconsinite and UWM's School of Architecture & Urban Planning alum whose goal is to serve the community through well-crafted design that is socially and ecologically responsible. Before returning to Milwaukee, Zach earned his M. Arch from Portland State University with a Certificate of Public Interest Design (CPID) Center for Public Interest Design, which aims to investigate, promote, and engage in inclusive design practices that address the growing needs of underserved communities worldwide. His experience as a project manager, designer, and drafter has allowed him to make an immediate impact on several project teams including Historic Patterson Place, a renovation of the former Carleton Elementary School into 30 1- and 2-bedroom apartments and 18 townhomes in Old North Milwaukee. The St. Louis Job Corps Welcome Center is nearing completion! The Welcome Center is one part of a multi-phased effort to re-imagine the former small arms ammunition plant into a cohesive educational campus with academic classrooms, administrative spaces, medical/dental offices, and more. Continuum designed this gateway to the campus which unites various functions, enhances the building aesthetics, and improves program spaces. The overall design philosophy was based on the nearby confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, a perfect metaphor for the coming together of diverse students to make new connections, find new opportunities, and change the course of their lives.
