How much will AI change our lives, really? Journalist and author Kara Swisher, who spent her career covering tech, gives us answers. Swisher has been one of the more prominent voices criticising the excesses of tech in recent years. She argues that big firms will never innovate if they are allowed to get big and stamp out the competition, and predicts Google will be broken up by antitrust authorities in the US. As to whether AI is coming for our jobs, Swisher replied: “Maybe there are some jobs people shouldn’t do.” Context's Avi Asher-Schapiro sat down with Kara Swisher at the Thomson Reuters Foundation's annual Trust Conference event this year in London. ?? The eyes of #COP29 have turned their focus on food and agriculture. So what's happening?? ? World leaders are assessing progress since COP28 first put food on the climate agenda. Food production accounts for a third of global emissions, but climate change is increasingly challenging farmers worldwide with extreme weather events.? ? However, a new study by Family Farmers for Climate Action shows that only a third of the $2.6 billion spent by top climate funds on agriculture between 2019-2022 went to small-scale farmers. And these farmers produce up to 80% of food in parts of Asia and Africa.? ? So, the question remains whether climate finance for food systems will reach those that need it most: small scale farmers. And as we approach the end of the summit, the stakes are high.? ? Make sure you’re following us at Context Newsroom so you don't miss any updates from Baku.

The Caspian Sea's rapid decline is a major focus at #COP29.? Azerbaijan is working with Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran to create a comprehensive plan to save the sea. Iran's involvement is vital, as it ranks among the world's top 10 polluters and has been slow to tackle climate change, which contributes to the sea's decline. The geopolitical landscape adds complexity, with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and uncertainty about climate policies from the incoming U.S. administration. ?? At #COP29, the stakes are high for agriculture, which bears the brunt of climate change's worsening impacts. But for millions of small-scale farmers across the Global South, big promises have yet to translate into meaningful support. ? Last year's #COP28 in Dubai put food on the climate agenda for the first time, with 160 countries pledging to integrate food and agriculture into their climate plans. ? But a new report from Family Farmers for Climate Action, representing over 50 million farmers, found that only a third of the $2.6 billion spent by top climate funds on agriculture between 2019-2022 actually reached small-scale farmers. ? So as COP29 unfolds, will this be the year global climate finance finally reaches the small farmers on the front lines of the climate crisis? ???
